Bailey Bariatrics in Owasso

Even though I am self pay for the actual surgery, we are trying to get all the preliminary testing paid for by my insurance. They are coding my visits under my co morbidities so hopefully the insurance companies don't ask questions and just pay it lol. Dr Wood did give me a price sheet though but it is 6am and raining outside and the sheet is in my car, so I'll get it to you later today :-). At first, I felt the same way about Dr. Kirk and his talking lol but I was very hesitant about doing this in the beginning and I have already seen him 4 times. But I think he uses his talking as a "tool" to calm people like me down. I want to get to know people before I can feel comfortable asking questions so I'm OK with that. I really liked Dr. Worley. He was 15 mins late for our apt and actually apologized, that rarely happens. He also explained stuff pretty well. I'm sorry you had a bad experience with him. I'll let you know how my apt goes today.

I guess I should clarify about Dr. Kirk...even though he talks a lot and made a mistake I still like him. He made me feel very comfortable and relaxed. The problem I had was my dad went with me to the appointment so I would have someone else there to ask questions that I know i'd forget and my dad was more upset about what he told me and harped on me yesterday to say something and I told him to relax and it wasn't that big of a deal so maybe I came off a little angry. I am happy with Dr. Kirk and he seems like a good doctor. I am not going to be happy if I have to see him 2 or 3 times more and pay $200 each time because that's BS for what he does...know what I mean?

And thank you so much for getting that price sheet to me...that'll help a lot!!! you rock!! :) haha and of course let me know happens today at your appointment. I'm digging having a conversation with someone in the same situation as me...makes it easier to talk about it. You have me nervous about the psychologist now though...LOL hopefully they won't commit me after my session ;) LMAO!!! kidding of course

Lol, yeah the psychologist was a trip but I actually felt a little better about some of my "deep dark secrets" lol after I left.

I am going to try to attach the papers she had me fill out and the price sheet. If it doesn't work, I will need to email them to you.

I really like having someone to talk to too. I am not telling any of my family and only a few friends what I'm doing but they don't get it. "So instead of going on a diet, you're going to cut part of your stomach out??" Lol well when you put it that way it does sound crazy but they are skinny and don't understand.

Well apparently I can't attach them to this thread but if you give me your email address, I will send them to you.

I sent you a message with my email address...hopefully you got it. LOL and i hear ya about telling people. They just don't understand what it's like to be where we are at. It's not as simple as eating salads and walking a mile every day. If it were we'd all be skinny and healthy. I'm doing this for ME and me only. I've only told a select few friends and some of my family members. They are all supportive so far. We'll see when I get an actual date for the surgery.

go it...thank you so much!

My crappy insurance won't cover anything related to bariatric procedures of any type. She actually called my insurance company and asked them about it. It's ok though. I can handle a few hundred bucks up front to save me a ton of money after all of this. :)

Mine won't either that why it's coded under something else. Hopefully if all goes as planned, I can get all the testing paid for and just have to pay for surgery. Talk to dr kirk about it. Have him code it under your comorbidities and send it to your insurance company. All they can do is not pay it. It's worth a try.

Are you talking about the psychologist part? I think she tried to get it coded under something but when the it comes to bariatric evaluations they still say no. I've tried to beat the system but I can't. I don't think Dr. Kirk can even refer me to anything because he's in no way affiliated with my insurance.

I had my surgery sept 23..dr varnell rocked!! Bailey is wonderful and the nurses were great.. just do what they say.. the tests were a pain but unlike other hospitals they make sure that you can handle the surgery... The support groups are really good to get to know people that have gone through the same thing and to get advice from other patients... I attend the one in muskogee in fact I just went to one last night we had quite a good time and I made a lot of new friends... I wish you all luck on your journey I have lost 51 pounds in 8 weeks...

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
