6 days post op... no fun

Recommended Posts

I feel like I am the only one who isn't really enjoying this experience so far. A lot of the stories are so positive and people bounced back so quick. I had a ton of pain post opp and lots of nausea.in fact I stayed an extra day in the hospital. Now 6 days later I still feel sick to my stomach and I have so much gas. Like the kind you hear and feel growling around but can't pass. I almost feel like I did when I would have a stomach bug. My back is killing me, and I always feel like I have a rock in my belly pulling down on me. I walk a lot so I can't believe it's still gas from the operation. I am drinking as much as I can, but it's not s lot due the discomfort. Please tell me I am not alone.... I have an appt with the surgeon on Thursday to discuss

@@shrinkingjill I am 4 days post op & stayed an extra day due to severe pain. I am walking, my stomach does feel like I'm carrying a brick-but it helps tremendously when I wear my stomach brace, provided by my hospital. That's not the technical name for it but I hope you get a visual.

Drinking at times is a little uncomfortable. But honestly, I read many, many post prior to surgery where people mentioned it may take weeks or up to a month before I feel like myself again. So I am choosing to hold on to that & just endure the uncomfortable moments. So no, you are not alone. Wishing you better days ahead. I'm told it gets easier.

I was miserable for the first week! I had lots of regrets. Week 2 was much better! Hang in there.

I was in really bad shape at first and wanted to cry but I didn't because I was worried id puke again! I held my husband and said "oh God why did I do this to myself!" I feel better now outside of pain. It's one of those things you'll probably enjoy it eventually you just have to get over this big hump! The only thing I can recommend is what I did which was sucking on ice and taking all of my nausea meds whether I needed them at the time or not. Good luck :)

I know everyone's stages are different. But if you allowed chicken broth- try that- the sodium in it can help. Also- I heard a lot of people that were nauseas from water- if you can have sugar free cranberry juice that can help too. It will get better.

It can take up to two weeks for the gas to pass. It gets SO MUCH BETTER. Hang in there, get lots of rest and give yourself time to heal.

when I was 6 days post op I was still in the hospital, so I understand. I felt the same. Wish I hadn't done it. But at 16 days, I'm not hating it. It really does get better. Hang in there.

I'm 7 days post-op, still in pain and having gas. Everyone heals different so I'm not worried. I've felt a lot better (energy wise) since starting from liquids. Before surgery I was a waterolic, could get enough Water. Now, my body doesn't like it. Like another poster said mixing juice with water. I mix organic cran-apple juice and water, I can drink that all day long no problem.

Today is my 6th day -- I don't really count the hospital because those were different (I feel like I was in a sleepy drug fog) but I got home Sunday and have been having the WORST experience ever- tons of gas pains, chest, shoulder and back very hard time breathing-- new pain in a new area every couple hours and just all around hating life! I literally called my doctor/hospital twice a day to describe my symptoms because it was so bad, I knew it couldn't be normal. He explained that everything was just my body healing. Everyone is different. He let me know that it was notable and if the pain continued or got worse I should come in. But today woke up feeling great, I was able to lay flat and sleep for the first time since the surgery, walked further, drank more liquid and even made 2 meals for my poor hubby (who has pretty much had to fend for himself all week)

My mom had a similar surgery when I was in high school and I feel like she was in the hospital, came home and was just perfect! I am totally jealous of her recovery but mine is a different journey!

I'm sure at some point I will feel pain again - but with this 1 day of hope I feel like I can see the light at the end of the tunnel as I allow my body to heal!

Can't wait for more results!

You can do this!!!

I am still in hospital supposedly getting released shortly but I'll admit that I'm a bit cranky. I knew going into this that I am horrible on the drugs they use to knock you out and I wake up a level 5 beeotch; snapping at everyone and very impatient. I'm gassy but its not bothering me as much as the liquid poo my new tummy brought with it. Also, mother nature brought her ugly face to visit a few days early and I'm just all around tired and sore and annoyed. I didn't feel this way yesterday but that's when they were still giving me morphine. I'm not hungry which is a good thing, and I'm not alone which is even better. Hang in there, I will too.

My pain was bad for two weeks then diminished very quickly. Beef bouillon was my best friend. I lost 17 lbs those 2 weeks. Things are SO much better now. I know it's easier said than done but please know that you are not alone and it WILL get much better soon!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
