Anyone got approved before EGD was done?

If you were approved before you EDG was done, what insurance company do you have?

I have BCBS of Iowa and my doc is doing the EGD at the same time as my VSG. Obviously, I was approved before getting it.

Well this is good news, I too have BCBS Iowa. My EGD is scheduled for Friday. I am here at the doctor now for my PreOpt for the EGD. I had to force my insurance to submit without it.

What is an EGD...I know a few month ago I had a scope done since I was experiencing really bad reflux...without the surgery yet...but after the scope his only response was.."nothing surprising" whatever that means..I know I have a hiatal hernia that will be repaired at time of surgery...I also quit smoking, and quit caffeinated coffee..doing the Decaf with sugar free hazelnut Creamer and I have noticed my reflux is not as severe as it used to be. I still take a OTC Nexium every other day as apposed to 2 a day before..so it's definitely a step forward.

BCBS of Kansas City and yes, the office waited on approval before scheduling the EGD as that is an expensive and invasive test that is not without risk, (they do put you under, usually with Propofol). You want to know you're covered before taking that step!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
