Where to get banded

Recommended Posts

It is recommended you check out a few places yourself...you are lucky living right in TO.

I recommend Dr Yau at TLBC (Prince Arthur Ave in Yorkville).

Jane, I envy you....i didnt have a surgeon in my city(ottawa)...I had to go to toronto. And same as yoda, i went to TLBC. I was banded a week ago today. It was good, i liked it...but do your research for yourself, and ask people what they thought of it. There are 3 doctors known for this in toronto, Dr. Cobourn/Dr. Mumford (Surgical Weight loss centre), Dr. Yau TLBC, and Dr. Tin(toronto cosmetic clinic). Toronto cosmetic clinic doesnt have anyone on this board....so i dunno bout them, i had a consult with them, but then never did it because the more i researched the more i didnt like them. They dont talk about pre-op diet in any of their info, no one on this board really knows them...etc. Ask people who went there what they thought. But i'd ask the people who have more experience, aka been for many fills, dealt with them in case of complications etc.

Try to stick to the portion sizes. Maral told me that and it is for healing purposes. It's only a few more weeks and we can do it!

Hey Rob you look like your doing amazing!!! Okay need info..... So you had it done at the TLBC. I went and saw a Kathy Palermo today, very nice lady. She made me feel very relaxed and calm. I swear to God if I'd had $16,000 dollars on me there and then, they wouldn't have got me out of that place but, surprise surprise I only had a crumpled $20 bill!!!!! Rob tell me everything? PLEASE????? What made you chose that place? How are you feeling now? How did you feel straight after? Are you glad you had it done any regrets? What's it feel like and how do you feel eating? I know it sounds weird but I'm worried about losing the ability to eat lots, it's been such a big, no lets get it right, bloody gigantic part of me I don't know what I'm going to do with all the spare time....... Hey and by the way you look like your doing amazing, well done and go for it!

Hey, I chose the place because after seeing this forum, i realised what was important in a banding centre. At first i had a consult (in person) at the toronto cosmetic clinic. Then came on here, figured i might as well get another consult on the same day so i wasnt wasting my time travelling to toronto. Looked like TLBC was a good one, so i chose it...i still didnt really have too much info. So anyways, i fill out the forms for the TLBC consult (which they could do over the phone, which was great!) And they needed forms filled out, info and such, whereas toronto cosmetic clinic didnt require anything, and wouldnt do a consult over the phone. I slowly realised that tcc wasnt the best choice because they didnt seem to be as organised and specialised like TLBC. It wouldve been nice to go to the consult in person i think, but its ok. So yeah, i dont know much about SWLC (Dr. C/Dr. Mumford) I didnt do a consult...plus theyre farther away for me...so..whatever, but i'm sure theyre great and people who have gone liked them i think. But anyways, one week out, i feel really good, I was out walking yesterday...took me a few days before i wanted to walk but its better now. I'm glad i did it so far, because i now feel like there is an end to the weight issue that has been plaguing me now for the last 10 years (half my life). I'm sure i'll be more happy i did it once i start eating regular food again. I TOTALLY know what you mean about not being able to eat lots, i think its normal, i think thats our addiction to food...i know i was addicted to food, i'm happy to read many posts that once you start feeling satisfied with food, and not always have to feel full your perspective changes...but i'm not there yet. Yeah, i'm doing good...i lost a lot in the pre-op diet...now THAT is a hurdle. *also to compare the 2 best places in toronto, at the TLBC the pre-op diet is cottage cheese(i hate it) and yogurt, whereas the SWLC is opti-fast (I THINK, not 100% sure) which is pretty expensive, like i think it will run you 400$ for the pre-op diet. Whereas my yogurt for the 10 days probly cost me under 100$. But yeah...Read lots of posts, if there was a counter that said how long i was on here just reading posts taking it all in....i'd have a lot stacked up. Also....dont just read the good stuff...its great to check out the before and after section, but also go in the complications sections, see what can happen. I'm still a newbie in all this, so i still have more questions than answers but hopefully it was helpfull.

Hey Rob,

You're a baby!!!! 20 years old, that's great your whole life ahead of you, my goodness you'll be rocking in a little while living life to the full, good for you. I'll let you know how I get on. Just one question, did you decide you wanted the procedure or did you get advised too. I only ask because it's a big decision for a 20 year old to make. Have you had a lot of support.

I was banded in Febraury by the SWLC (Dr. Coburn/Mumford, and they have also added another surgeon to the team Dr. Padonou).

I think with either clinc you are in good hands. I opted to go with the SWLC because that was who I had my first consult with and I felt immediatly comfortable with. Dr. Coburn called me out of the blue one night after I had submitted a request for information via thier web site. Also what helped sway me was the fact that they have a network of fill providers in Calgary. That wont be an issue for you living in TO, but it was very important to me for obvious reasons.

As for the pre-op with the SWLC, it depends on you BMI and sex. As I am a male with a high BMI and carry my weight in my midsection I had to do 3 weeks pre-op, but many have to do 2. The pre-op consist of 3 Optifast shakes per day and a portion of allowed veggies. I found the pre-op to be pretty easy. For me at least I dotn think I could have stuck to the yogurt Cottage cheese. The cost for the optifast is $70.00 per week, which is cheaper than what I was eating in take out in a week.

Well...i've been obese class3...probably the last 2 years...before, still very big..so i've tried a lot of things to change that...nothing worked. obviously if you get to this point its because you are done with all the other crap. This year is the first year that my Blood pressure is considered high...I don't EVER want to have to take meds for diabetes (which i probably wouldve had by 25), Hypertension (few years).....I was heading down a bad path, this was what i saw...i was actually just one day thinking...i should get a surgery, looked up RNY...found this, and decided RNY was not what i wanted. Lap band seemed like a good solution, so yeah, my parents have been more or less suportive, my mom understands, my dad is the person who thinks i can still turn it around myself...but anyways, yeah...thats it.

hi jetlagjane. my surgeon is dr. cobourn. he is a great guy and his nurses and staff are top notch to me. he even checked in with me at home after surgery a few times to see how i was doing and the nurses as well. and i love the new clinic. the surgery was a good experience. pre-op isn't bad i found it affordable and flexable. you can add all sorts of stuff to the Optifast. my fav was with frozen strawberries and ice with about 1 cup of Water tastes like a milk shake.

good luck with whomever is your fav surgeon its a very personal choice.

good luck on your journey

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
