I'm slightly odd feeling in my chest.

Recommended Posts

Ok, I was banded on March 28th (6 weeks & 2 days ago). I have been feeling great since the operation, I am healing well and have lost 18 pounds. I have already had one fill of 3.4 cl.

Anyway, over the last 5 days I have noticed an odd sensation in my chest area (gullet) I have felt this sensation twice before. It is the same sensation that I have had in the past if I have vomited and wrenched. It feels tender for a few days and then calms down. I also felt this for about a week after my op.

Anyway, the sensation is here again. It's not severe but I am aware of it. It is stressing me out as I am thinking the worst that something has happened to my band.

I also have a different muscular pain in the side of my left thigh. I have had it ever since my operation. The only thing that I can attribute it too is when I came round from my op, I remember having two injections in that area. One to ease the sickiness and the other to ease the pain. Could they have caused this pain?

The leg pain could be from any number of things. I had a pretty severe pain in my right hip after one of my surgeries and it resolved itself pretty soon, but because of positioning on the OR table or having someone lift and pull you onto the other bed, you could have some nerve damage or pinched nerve etc. If it doesn't seem to get better, I would defintely bring it up with my physician.

As for your chest discomfort. You are going to notice many changes in sensations in your chest/throat area, but if you can't relate it to eating, drinking or band healing, I would surely let the doctor know about it.

Sorry it took so long for someone to reply to your post!

Welcome and congrats on your surgery! I hope you're doing better now!

Can you identify an antecedent for the sensation?

hmm, do you have your gallbladder? Do you have any restriction going on? My first thought when I read your post was either too tight or gallbladder. Just my thought fro whatever they are worth ;)

You must be a teacher. ;)

As far as the discomfort goes, Dr. Kirshenbaum said to expect this in places like my shoulder, my side. I did feel it in my shoulder. I did feel that same strange sensation in my "gullet". The same feeling you get when you've gotten very nauseated and there is nothing left but aches.

I use to get a form of that same feeling with heartburn.

Calling the doctor is something that is practical. Doing other things like increasing your Water, drink and eat slowly. RELAX! That helps your overall persona.

( I would give it a week, try switching foods, going on liquids, resting more and see how you feel ) Hope this helps. Good luck.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
