Tailbone after weight loss

Recommended Posts

Has anyone else noticed their tailbone hurts after sitting once the fat on your butt is gone ! I'm glad the big butt has left but who would have thought this was a side effect lol

Yep, but for me, it's not my tailbone, it's my hip bones. Must be the say I sit. Anyway, I can actually feel my bones easily through my skin, and when I sit on a hard surface, (bleachers, church pews, wooden chairs) I have to shift to the side to prevent pain. I need to build some muscle there, which I think would help immensely.

My mom lost a lot of weight and kept it off for nearly 30 years, without WLS, just through very low calorie dieting. She actually developed a decubitus ulcer (pressure sore) on her tailbone, even though she was not bed bound. She had it for about 10 years. Her diet really wasn't very good. In the last 6 months she got cancer and I worked with her to change her diet for healing, having her eat much like a WLS patient (high protien, but with a slightly increased calorie intake), and it healed! She's 74 and active, so that just goes to show what a poor nutritional status with weight loss can do, and also how important good nutrition really is!

YES! Thanks for mentioning that! I forgot to put that in my post [to which I'd appreciate any advice]:

With so little fat there now, my tail and hip bones are right there, so the nerves that course deep to the muscle get the pressure. Hurts sometimes [especially with a past injury to my "SIJ" there], but I'll deal with it. To feel those bones I hadn't felt in a long time!! Wow.

Also, when lying in bed on my side, and my knees are right next to each other...no fat is there to cushion them. Funny. Oh well!

I doubt I will ever not have ample junk in my trunk. I come from a long line of booty. LOL. But, I notice when I sleep (I'm a side sleeper) that my knee bones are knocking against one another. And I am not even thin yet. I am pretty thin in the legs from the knee down though. But jeez.

same here, LOL.

I have a Tempur-Pedic seat cushion. It was stupid $$, but is a needed addition to my work chair.

I also try to be conscious of how I'm sitting - making sure my hips are a little forward which keeps me from rolling back on to my tailbone.

At night, I have to tuck the bedding between my knees if I'm on my side. I thought it was just me!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
