Kedging through the Doldrums

Recommended Posts

This is a nautical phrase. When ships sailed across equatorial waters the sometimes got caught in the region known as the Doldrums where there was little to no wind activity. Which in turn meant they were stuck in there with no wind in there sail. In order to get out they would " kedge" their way out. This might include putting the anchor into a smaller boat, rowing out a distance and then dropping anchor. The crew would then"pull" the boat toward the anchor and repeat the process until the could catch wind in their sail.....

My point?

How do you 'kedge' your way out of the 'doldrums'?

I could use some new ideas to get me out of this stagnant place and back on track. Just like literal kedging, I know it will be hard work for a time but I need to get the wind in my sail so I can make progress again.

Thanks in advance.

i go for a walk or read w/a glass of wine (or two :)

or talk to a good friend with a great ear/shoulder....

if you want a motivator, look at a before picture of you before surgery.

if that dont motivate you, nothing will

Love this phrase! I'm about to go kedge myself out of the doldrums in the basement -- treadmill, bike and BowFlex. Every one around me the last couple of days is in a bad mood -- husband has man-cold, kid is grumpy, mother constantly complaining......I feel like I take in other people's "stuff" and I need to walk it off. Fast walk my way back to myself and my own joy. Maybe we can kedge our way to full sail by reminding ourselves of what we really want. I really want to lose another chunk. I have to really really want it then nothing can stop me. I want to fit in that skirt. I want to be healthy and happy with my weight. Really, really.

Interesting phrase but why do you need kedging? Need more information?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
