I am 9 days post op, the port site ( at least I'm guessing it's the port site, it's just a little left of biggest incision, which is just to the left and a little up from my belly button) has been painful sense day of surgery, but over the last 2 days, when I stand, it's like a pulling pain sensation. It's also really hard and I can feel a knobby knot, but if I gently massage it, and walk it goes back to soft. Also over the last 2 days a small bruise has formed right where this pain is, I bruise easily and was surprised I had no bruising after surgery but this seems odd that it just popped up and it kinda looks like the color of an old bruise. I have my follow up on Tuesday, was just wondering if anyone experienced this after surgery, when I look online, I see all these stories of ports flipping and all it does is scare me????

You are new & just had major surgery , yes it is probably your port , don't be worried till you talk with your doctor , also remember they did sew your port or stuff in your stomach to a muscle & we didn't know at the time & you will find out that there are muscles we never use , so don't get to worried ,till then & if you want to ask any questions ASK that's what their for , it helps & has helped me to write down things, so when I go to see my Surgeon I don't forget because I know I will ,just a suggestion.

Hi Mama Rita,

I had my operation over two and a half weeks ago, and I have always been more sore there than anywhere else. Even to the point of my stomach looking rounded and hard in that area. I went for my check up and the dr said it was normal. I have also noticed that if I am constipated it seems to stick out more. It is still very sensitive especially when I sit for long periods of time and I am in a desk job so it happens all the time.

Don't worry I am sure it is completely normal and will ease after time.....ha ha or at least we hope it does :)

Port site pain seems to come and go. I'm just over 2 months out, and every now and then I get a twinge.

I didn't touch that area for many weeks. I didn't want to dislodge anything

@@MamaRita yes we get worried right before surgery ,then after surgery we wander what did we do & we start noticing different things , I also felt tugs if I moved the wrong way , so yes most of us do get worried & hope we didn't mess anything up , I am sure you will be fine ,but like I said ANYTHING you are concerned about always talk with your surgeon, just so you can be at ease , remember it helped me to write down what ever or whenever I had a pain so I could remember & ask my Surgeon , I really like my Surgeon because I can text or call him Anytime.

I wish I could text my surgeon!!!!! I am seeing mine on Tuesday, so as long as nothing gets worse, I'm gonna hold off till then, today it seems less sore, so maybe just part of the healing process, I'm hoping. I have a high fear of being put under, so it was a huge step that I even got the lapband to begin with, so the thought of something going wrong, and having to be put under again, is just a big fear.

Hi! I had the exact same issue as your having. It went away after a few days. Mine started day 10. I still have it a little here and there I'm now at day 14 post op. my Gf had the same op 2 years ago and she experienced the same thing. You need to take it easy and stop moving around so much. I overdid it looking after my kids... Picking them up, moving side to side playing and so forth. Someone on this forum recommended an ice pack for the pain. I gave it a go and it helped so maybe try that.

I was so scared thinking I had done myself damage or something, but you have to remember you have just had a pretty big operation. I totally underestimated this op and expected to be as normal within a few days but far from it.

Wish you all the best! ;)

Ty Danni, I feel some relief, just knowing someone else experienced this as well:)

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
