Sick from Weight Loss

Recommended Posts

She didnt necessarily have a diagnosis, it may be her own "feeling" on what was going on. Its like starvation mode, there's no difinitive proof that exists and certainly if it does, we must get beyond it because people can and do starve to death and become extremely thin in the process. We know that we do store toxins in fat.

I'm not sure what I believe here but I do know I went through a period where I felt like a toxic waste dump and had ALL sorts of hormonal issues which have stabilised now and I was certainly told that it could be caused by estrogen imbalances in my body due to the storage of estrogen in fat.

Maybe the original poster just wanted to vent or offer some wisdom based on her own experience, and is way past having her condition re-analyzed by other people, or explaining her conclusions, diagnosis, treatment plan. Maybe she didn't want any help or medical advice.

I don't think anyone here was offering the OP a diagnosis or medical advice. I don't think anyone was analyzing her experience. We come here to exchange information and share facts. If this is a real issue that many need to be aware of I don't think it is out of line at all to identify how the OP came to this diagnosis. Was it self diagnosed from reading websites or was it diagnosed by a licensed physician. How are we to learn if we can't ask questions?

There are many websites making huge claims (and money). How is it unreasonable to ask questions so if we believe we may have the same issue we can follow up with appropriate doctors as well? I for one would like to know if I have to go to a website to self diagnose or if I can go to a doctor for a diagnosis. This is not unreasonable in the least.

If I come here and say that having a band caused me to have a brain tumor, since when is it unreasonable to ask me how I came to this diagnosis?

Venting belongs in the rant and rave section. Offering wisdom requires sharing experiences and answering questions to help others help themselves. I am an RN and have seen too many people harmed by reading something on the internet, taking the advice posted, and suffering negative consequences because they failed to consult a professional or do research to confirm what was read.

While I sympathsize with what was written by the original poster, I can't place any value in it if he/she won't answer questions or reply to a thread he/she started.

Sure sounds freaky and why wouldn't we have heard about it if there is medical data to support it?

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
