Day 14 Post op and weight stall?

Recommended Posts

Hi all. I'm 14 days post op today. I'm just starting the pureed stage today too. While I'm looking forward to texture, everything seems to make me feel nauseated after.

I've lost over 10# but nothing lost last two days. Is this normal? I feel so down not seeing the scale move abd still experiencing pain and nausea.

J~

totally normal....... I am 4 weeks out and stalled for about 10 days now... body is recovering from major surgery that altered your digestive tract. keep your Water and Protein intake up. Take care

I'm 14 days out and I have stalled for 2 days as well. You are right, it is discouraging. It's not related to started puree because I started that stage close to a week ago and my weight loss stayed consistent. Maybe we're just starting the 3 week stall early. Hopefully it doesn't last long.

I'll just copy/paste the copy/paste I did less than a week ago:

I'll just copy/paste the answer I gave to someone else less than a week ago who asked the same thing:

A search will show you dozens ... and dozens ... of threads about the stall that happens around week 2-3 post-op. Your body just had major surgery. Give it a break and relax and get well. Put the scale away and don't bring it out again for a couple of weeks. Be good to yourself, let yourself heal. Stalls happen all the time, this isn't a sprint it's a marathon.

Yup, totally normal, like everyone else says.... you'll have stalls here and there but once the weight loss resumes, it comes down almost on a daily basis... :)

Thanks everyone. I've been hovering around this board since my surgery and it's very reassuring to see what everyone else is going thru.

I wasn't very high on the bmi chart(38) but I've got several co-morbidity factors, hence the surgery. I don't feel terribly bad but I'm struggling with insomnia last 3 nights too.

Congratulations! You have reached "The Dreaded Week-3 Stall". (You may have gotten there a little early.) It's perfectly normal and just about all of us have suffered through it. You're not crazy, and your doctor didn't screw up. In fact, you might not lose any weight for two weeks or more. But don't worry -- after that, the weight will start falling off if you stick to your program. If you're interested, here's a good article that explains why it happens and why we all have to go through it. Hang in there. Pretty soon it'll be in the rear-view mirror and you'll be dropping weight like crazy!

My first stall was approximately at week 2, and lasted for about 12 days. It sucked. But it will go away. Your body is basically saying "HOLD UP! WTF DID YOU DO TO ME?!" Once it heals a bit and calms down, weight loss will resume. Continue to follow your instructions and ramp up your daily activity to promote healing.

Congratulations! You know, I would recommend you not weigh very often actually. Our bodies are recovering and going through a lot of changes. I am stalled right now but my doctor assures me that it is normal and healthy. As for food, take it easy on that tummy. It is still healing. What they tell us all us true: little bites, small portions, eat slowly, chew chew chew. Breaking those rules is no fun.

Thanks to all of you "veterans" out there...I was sleeved on 9-16 and was doing just fine until this past week (the dreaded week 3). I lost 22 lbs in the first 2 weeks and this past week...nothing. Very frustrating, but happy to know I'm not alone! Guess I should stop getting on the scale every morning...lol.

@@Hockey momma Are you still stalled? I was the last I checked. I'm not weighing again until Wednesday and I'm hoping by then the stall is gone and I show some weight loss.

I'm not exactly sure. When I assumed the stall started, I went up two pounds and now I'm back down 3.5 but it's taken over a week. I increased my Water intake, lowered my sugar intake (I was eating regular popsicles bcuz that's all we had) and tried to make sure I was getting my daily Protein.

I go back to work this Monday, tomorrow. I do a lot of walking for my job and can easily cover 3 miles a day. I'm hoping the exercise coupled with my increased water intake helps.

Hang in there. I did what other posters suggested too.....I took a few days off from weighing myself. It's so easy to get obsessed with it.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
