  • Don’t worry. It is natural hair loss of 5-15% of your hair due to the stress of surgery and weight loss. It rarely lasts more than 6 months. It grows back.

Funny enough, I was actually hoping for this to happen. I wanted the excuse to shave my head (yeah, I know it is different for a guy), but sadly all it did was change texture for a couple of months.

From everything I've read the only hope to keep it from happening is to make sure you always get all of your Protein in. The lack of it, combined with the trauma to our bodies is what causes the hair issues.

But like chriss mentioned, most people I've spoken to at support groups and most of the posts I've read state that it went back to normal about 6-7 months after it starts.

I've heard it's common too...but it's still one of my biggest fears!! I think some Vitamin deficiency can be the problem too. My friend had the sleeve done and was losing her hair. She called the surgeon's office and they told her to start taking an additional Vit. I can't remember for sure, but I think it was Vit. B12?

I've been growing out my hair and using some essential oils on it ahead of time, hoping that helps once I start losing it, if I do lose it...

Hi,

First question I have is are you eating all of your Protein required? It's so essential for this problem and for healing properly.

Second you might want to start taking Biotin chewables from Twinlabs. I swear by it for helping and it also helps with nails too.

You can also get Biotin in Shampoo if you want for additional help.

It will come back in several months after your body has recouped from the surgery.

Good luck and have great success with your weight loss surgery.

I'm in the UK and I get a Vitamin B12 inoculation (prescribe by the Bariatric Surgeon) every 3 months for the rest of my life. It helps with the hair loss, fatigue and anemia too.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
