Any November Sleevers for 2014 need surgery buddys?

I'm 5 days post op and haven't defecated since the morning before surgery. Is that normal? Any suggestions on what I should do

My instructions were to take Milk of Magnesia or Magnesium Citrate if I hadn't had a BM in 3-5 days. I'm 5 days post op and finally had a movement today.

Thanks. I'm going to get some. And call my doctor in the morning to confirm but sounds good to me.

Let me tell you... This is no joke. I heard about all of the people taking Benefiber and Mirolax and wish I started them sooner. I had the worst experience yesterday. What happens us that first of all you've just had major surgery. 2nd your diet has changed and now for some reason your hormones, add to that a narcotic pain killer that causes Constipation and it's a recipe for disaster!

Make sure your foods are LIQUIFIED and that you get Water in above all else, you'll figure out the balance as you go on.

My surgery was Monday and by Thursday I could tell that I needed to go. Started the Mirolax too late. If you haven't yet, confirm with your doc (always) and get that in now as well as a stool softener ASAP. My doc and my health insurance nursing coordinator suggested as well as others on this forum: Colace, in it's liquid form it's called Docusate.

This was a Godsend. I am not going to go into graphic details, but you can imagine the difficulty I had after having daily more Protein than water, food semi solid, no Fiber and no laxative. It was more pain honestly than anything I'd experienced to date, and I had stopped the pain meds because of the constipation.

I NEVER want to do that again!

GOOD LUCK!

I didn't have any pain at all. My post op diet has only been Clear Liquids so there was really nothing in there but Water and broth. I bought the Milk of Magnesia last night but did not use it as I felt a few rumblings in my stomach this morning and was able to go on my own.

I'm heading in for my sleeve on Monday the 17th, 1 week from tomorrow!. I'm so excited. Nervous at the same time. Does anyone have any questions they'd WISHED they'd asked their surgeon before the surgery? I kind of froze on my consultation and didn't ask everything I'd planned to ask. I plan to ask some more questions when I go in for pre-op on Thursday.

midwestgirl, so sorry about your loss. my condolences. i can imagine how it must feel to go through that on top of the surgery.

it's so good to read about everyone's initial post-op experiences, the good, the bad and the wicked Constipation ;). i'm so grateful for this site that brings us all together for support.

i am petrified because i hurt my knee this weekend while my boyfriend was away on a retreat, and i couldn't cook (or barely stand) and i had to order in food, and i gained 4 lbs. my pre-op appt is wednesday, and i have no clue if they're going to weigh me again, and if they do, if they will put off my surgery because of it.

please tell me, when you went for your final pre-op appt, did they weigh you again even though approval has already been granted and surgery already scheduled?

thanks,

jess

I had mine in Mexico so I was self-pay, however they did weigh me again. Have you done all the shopping for your pre-op diet yet? As long as you have you shouldn't have an issue as there isn't much cooking involved. Just drink your Protein shakes and tons of water!

I think each doctor is different. Some require that you lose a certain amount of weight. My doctor pretty much just required that we didn't gain weight (but of course wanted us to lose). For me, we started on a diet plan prior to the pre-op diet (lower cals, healthy foods, exercise). The nurse told us that they only had to turn away two or three people because they had gained too much weight.

So, do your best is my advice. You can do it. Go get it girl

I had my surgery on 11/5. I'm doing my walking laps around the house, and using my spirometer. Im going good on my Water and Protein. When I start to feel a little weak I have my Soup. I have lost 4# of post surgery weight.

It is awfully hard to get that liquid in, but i have to remember that I don't want to get dehydrated.

I also fought a terrible cold during all of this. I have to remember that I'm improving every day.

I had surgery on the 6th. Down 15# so far. Went back to work today , earlier than I would have liked but manageable. Oddly, my surgeon didn't put me on any pre-op diet. I literally are what I wanted until midnight the night before surgery. Odd, right?? So I'm 7 days in on this liquid diet crap but it's going okay. ;) having to take an antacid to sleep at night, otherwise I wake up in a lot of pain.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
