To weigh or not to weigh?

A friend I work with was sleeved in the end of April 2014. She weighs herself every day. I was sleeved September 10th, and have decided to wait until my first follow up appointment (October 2nd) to find out what my weight is now. I feel as though I have enough on my "plate" with trying to get all my Proteins, RX & liquids down, along with adding in walking. Am I crazy to not stress about checking the scale?

I weigh myself every day as part of my morning routine, you know wake up, go to the bathroom, weigh myself and brush my teeth. I don't worry to much about it.

I just like to knowing that I am headed in the right direction.

I went out of town for a week over spring break and during the whole week I only lost 1 pound. It was because of the yogurt I was eating, but if I would have been the scale daily I would have seen that earlier.

But I think it is up to every person, my doctors office says I shouldn't weigh myself daily that it will only frustrate me, but I still do it. I like to keep an eye on it.

I have weighed almost everyday for my entire adult life and written it down in a calendar that I keep. The last year following my sleeve surgery I wrote down my weight the same way everyday and it has helped me realize that stalls are not as long as they seem, that maybe I should be more careful with what I'm eating, and that my losses tend to happen in patterns.

No one says you have to weigh yourself everyday and if you're not comfortable, don't! It's just a lot easier to see in the future the progress you've made, the rate that you've lost at, and to immediately recognize if you put on a few pounds. When I see I gained a pound, I immediately look at what I'm eating and make the changes. For me this works a lot better than not realizing I gained weight until my pants are too tight and then I have to lose the 10 I gained instead of just 1 or 2.

I vote don't weigh. It will save you a lot of stress. Better yet, you won't even know if you have a stall or not. You can concentrate on drinking, getting in Protein and making healthy food choices. Judge your success by how your clothes fit and NSV's. F... K the numbers on the scale. I don't even own a scale.< /p>

I weighed myself at the doctors office maybe 4 times in the first 2 months. After 4 months, I have stepped on the scale at work about once a week so I have something to post on my ticker. And I've always lost weight whether a I weigh myself or not.

Thanks for the support. I don't own a scale either, I like the fact of weighing in @ the follow up appointments, as that is where my starting number came from at my "welcome" meeting.

The lady I work with, stresses every time she doesn't lose some weight in a week.

Maybe I'll get a scale later, anyone have input on a good brand?

Weigh in once a week as weighing daily is crazy. Your weight can fluctuate each day based on foods eaten or exercise taken or even that time of the month!

I'm rith there with you! Sleeved on 9/15 and won't hop on a scale till my post-op appt 10/1. One reason - I've never found two scales that were the same. I wanna do my first post-op weigh in on the same scale I did my final pre-op weigh in. Then my next weigh-in will be when I return to work (i work in a hospital) and will do my monthly weigh-ins on the same scale every time. Maybe weekly...but as of right now, I'm set on the 15th of every month:).

I was sleeved on 9-15. I got in the habit of weighing every day once in morning and once a night. Bad move. I stepped on the scale and gained weight. So dissapointed but the doctor says as our muscle looses fat it is replaced with healthy muscle. He said do not be a ball a day chain wire the scale. If I did not jump on it every day it would have worked itself out. But it is depressing since I know that it happened

I was sleeved on 9/16/14. I fell prey to weighing everyday. I try not to, but I still do. It's so hard not to. And I have to tell you - it's an up and down roller coaster. I was very upset yesterday morning and completely whined about it and pitched a fit on here venting about it. But the good thing about these forums, it's full of experienced and encouraging sleevers who will slap you back into reality as they did for me yesterday. And I SO needed it. Everyday is and will be different. My stats are as follows : 9/16/14 hospital weight was 221. Today my weight is 205.6. Can't wait until I'm in "one-der-land". Lol - under 200. I'll get there. We will all get there. Lean on these forums. They do help. They're helping me ❤

We've all heard of cross addiction, right? We trade overeating for alcoholism or a gambling addiction or drug addiction, etc. From reading these posts it looks like we should add "scalaholic" to that list. Not being able to control a behavior and letting that behavior control our emotions and mental well being definitely falls into the category of addiction.

Kindle I agree with you. I am putting my scale in my closet and lock the door. I have been overweight for some time and the thin me wants out. That is why I stress when I see scale going the wrong ditection. Thanks to every one for the support.

I had my first follow ups on October 2nd, and was suprised that I was down 30lbs from my highest weight! So glad I didn't stress with day in and day out by weighing!

Never knew if I hit a plateu or not, it was a great feeling of BAM, see how much is gone!

Now I'm going to try and wait until my 3 month follow ups (late in December) to see what happens then, it's been years of "weight on" and now it's "weight off"!!

I have to admit that I do the scale thing...But it helps me to adjust what I eat.....I've been stuck now for over a week so it's time for me to get serious about walking ...not just when I feel like it or can fit it in.....going to have to make it a priority!!

      I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
      I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
      Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

      Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
