Type 1 Diabetic and Sleeve

Recommended Posts

I should know next week my surgery date. I'm not that nervous about the surgery itself but I am nervous about how it will be with my diabetes. Are any of you type 1 and how did it go. Did you have many drops? Any advice

I'm so excited for you.

I was also nervous about being a type one diabetic and having sleeve surgery. I'm 3 months and 18 days out. My A1C is now a 5.9 (my Dr is amazed) I use very little insulin and some days no insulin. I have had a few lows. I drink a small shot of orange juice diluted with Water. It brings my blood sugar back up. I have to be careful not to miss meals. I also eat a small amount before I work out and after I get back from the gym.

Your diabetic Dr. will help you through the process. Each of us experience all of the changes from surgery differently. For my health it has been the best thing ever.

Wishing you well on you're journey

Jenn

I'm about 2.5 months out and I'm doing really well. I didn't have too many drops but i do now b/c I'm working out daily now. I cut down on insulin and cut out victoza and only taking 1 metformin pill. It;s taking awhile to lose weight but it's def. made a difference

Hi readyforitnow. I by no means have medical training but I wonder if Gastric Bypass has the same potential effects that it has on type 2 diabetes. I know they don't do this in the US but I have lived overseas and I know some people have gastric bypass, even though they do not have weight issues, just to get remission from diabetes. Worth asking your doctor.

I haven't had my surgery yet but am type 1 (22 years now). I'll be following this post. I'm sure I'll be dialing down my pump and can't wait to take less insulin!!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
