Had RNY on 8/28. REALLY struggling to get my Protein and liquids in. Was back to work full time this week and I know I'm not getting enough. Even when i do eat I don't always want it. Sometimes I even feel sick to my stomach when I'm forcing myself to eat. Like the feeling of if I keep eating I'll get sick. That's probably a big reason why I'm not dropping the weight as fast as i had imagined. Ugh!! Any suggestions??

I drink most of my Protein early in the day. I put mocha Protein powder in my Decaf coffee for a nice frappe like drink and I also drink a Protein shake mid morning....that helps me get in 60g of Protein before lunch and any more is a bonus.

I usually have greet yogurt later towards the evening and you can get 12g of protein out of chobani. I have also read about others getting protein powders that are more like crystal light.... Maybe you would tolerate something like that better.

I bought that GENEPRO people were talking about and it really is tasteless... The scoops are tiny and you can add it to anything.

I had my RNY surgery September 5, 2014 and im am struggling to get liquids down of the 64 oz they require. I know im thirsty so I drink but im only able to swallow a small mouth full before my tummy says enough. then im uncomfortable for a lil bit and can take another drink. Very frustrating. Also having a hard time choking down Protein shakes... they don't taste bad but it literally me 3 hours to get it all down. any ideas?

I'm in the same boat. Struggling to get in my Protein and liquids. I get sick on the protein powders and Protein Bars, so I am trying to find other ways to get my protein in. Unfortunately, I can't eat much before I'm too full. So what starts out to be high in protein isn't so high after all because I can't eat the serving size to get it all in. And fluids....oh how my stomach hates to drink! I'm thirsty, but my stomach literally rebels at Fluid intake. My RNY was 8/18/14, and I was hoping that by now I'd be doing better.

This is all normal. It IS hard to get all this in. I think your nut would just encourage you to try. I know I was only told that I needed to drink 32 oz of Water at first and build up. I still can't drink 64 oz just yet. Do what you can. THe important thing with eating is that you aren't eating other types of food that aren't Protein until you get your Protein in. Just keep trying but don't get too down on yourself if you can't. You will build up to it.

As someone above suggested, their are other ways to get your protein in so try different things. There is the Protein Powder in small servings that you can put into your Water, there are the Isopure drinks (they are an acquired taste but are 40 grams of protein and can also count towards your liquids--just know they don't taste like the flavor they come in--you can get these at the Vitamin Shoppe), unjury has some good protein powder options, things like this. Yogurt, cottage cheese, ricotta cheese, eggs--these are all very helpful.

You'll get there.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
