Anticipation shopping... :)

Recommended Posts

Soooo... Anyone else start buying cute smaller clothes well before you've even had the surgery? Lol! I don't even have a date yet but I'm already planning ahead. :)

I went to a 3-day music festival this week and went a little crazy buying the cute band t-shirts that I always want but they never have in my size. Well not too crazy, only 2 of them. But I bought them both in a large so that I can use them as rewards for losing weight! One of them seemed so perfect. The front says, "Far From Easy" and the back says, "Worth the Fight". I can't wait to fit into it and the other one. They'll definitely be featured in some "after" pictures.

Am I the only one crazy enough to pre-surgery shop??? If not, what did you buy?

I've honestly considered it, but am afraid that I won't get to wear them.

I wasn't too overly optimistic. I got them both in a Large. I have faith in my surgeon, in myself and will have faith in my sleeve. I will not let this weight continue to control me. I will be successful. :)

I had my sleeve on 12/23/2013 and was a size 22 /2XL at the time. During the holiday season, so many stores were having deep discounts up to 75% off, so I started buying up 8/10/12/14's so that I would have a few pieces in each size as I go down in weight. I am into my 12/14's now at 172 pounds.

I really hesitate to buy anything smaller than an 8 until I see what size and shape I am as I get closer to goal. I have not weighed 135 since 1986, so I think at that point I will need to quit buying online and actually go out and try something on. My other biggest problem right now is that none of my wide shoes fit, and I do not want to buy shoes online.

I definitely wouldn't have purchased anything smaller than the Large. I even tried to get an XL on one of them but they were out. Fortunately, they aren't too fitted so I think they'll when I'm getting close to goal if not before.

I'm trying to just remain as positive as possible about this whole experience. I've seen some posts here with newbies who haven't lost as much as they anticipated and I know that can happen to me too but even if it takes me 2 years ore more to get there, I want this bad enough that I will get there. I've been obese my entire adult life. It's time for me to live the life I have always wanted and not the one trapped inside this body.

My closet is full of beautiful clothes that will fit me all the way down through a size 12.

But after that (10s and 8s?) I dunno what will happen. Will I get below that? Will I be "shaped" a 10 or an 8?

If you're really in the mood to pre-shop, try hitting a high-end consignment shop. I went to one last week, and there are some seriously lovely things for $22 - $25. A lot of the clothes are also in great shape. You can't hurt yourself too much at places like that.

Enjoy. :)

I had clothes from a size 18 down to a size 2, so I measured my progress by what I could fit back into as opposed to buying new things. For my plastics surgery though, I totally bought cute things that I knew I would look good in after surgery, before I ever went under the knife. Anticipation shopping is a wonderful thing...enjoy it. :)

I worked in an strip club for the past 15 yrs. As a housemom , obviously not an entertainer lol. I have a ton of sexy clothes in all kinds of sizes as well as gowns(it was as very upscale club) I used to sell. I haven't been well since I moved here 2 yrs ago between my high bp, bone on bone knees and back issues so I haven't found a job in the club's yet. So I have all kinds of clothes to play with once I get to normal sizes. Lol hopefully I'll lose some of these Barney Rubble feet I have too. I have started redesigning boots and I have a couple I can't get my fat feet into

I bought a bikini that looks very much like one I had at 15 and it is hanging on my wall. LOL! I know I will likely never wear it but it makes me smile ! Also I am having fun searching wedding dress sites for our 15 year vow renewal next year. :) And when my legs slim down, I'm getting boots dammit! :)

I am 3 months out and have been enjoying shopping in my own closet. It is so fun wearing clothes that I have not worn for a long time. Many are new because I bought them thinking this will fit when I lose 10 pounds and before the sleeve I never did lose that weight.

I have been big all my adult life so I had no clothes to shop from in my closet. I have had to buy everything new, even panties!! I laughed and told a friend the only thing that still fits are my socks! So yes, I've shopped ahead. All during the summer I shopped the clearance winter racks. I got some really great deals.

I've lost 145 pounds overall and I love shopping!

I did have some smaller clothes I held onto for a loooong time, but I have so many clothes and it seemed like I wouldn't fit them until they were out of style...so I donated about 5 garbage bags full to Salvation Army. There are some items I wish I had kept!

I think it sounds like a nice treat! I was previously a 2XL & recently claimed a M T-shirt(which is now too small for my teenage son) & wore it to his football game the other night! I also acquired a Small sweatshirt which fits just great! It's funny to be able to use clothes from the boy's closets instead of sending them to the school resale. Best of luck to you!post-205077-14113466501736_thumb.jpg

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
