So they called me today and i have obstructive sleep apnea....I would of never thought..... I'm a lil sad.. Like how did i get to this place? How did i get so fat? My BMI is 48.. How did this happen???? I am 35 yrs old. I feel old..why? All these emotions came from that one call.. I really feel sad.. I know having co-Morbidities will help you get approved..but Idk how I feel about all this... I was so excited to get this started now I feel like what else do I have?? I don't really talk to anyone about it..cuz everyone feels like i can do it without surgery...They don't get it.other than my husband and my twins... I'm not telling anyone..but they don't really get it..they are not over weight. I'm feeling lonely right about now..and this is the only place I can let it out........ Fat girl Struggles

Don't be so down on yourself. It is what it is..and your surgery is going to change your life. Most likely you won't have sleep apnea soon. and your right, some people don't understand. I found that the people I expected to most supportive weren't and vice versa. I only told those I wanted to before surgery--I got tired of having to defend myself. Now, (10 months after surgery) I tell anyone I want and I don't try to defend myself. I did this for me and if they don't agree, then that's on them. Most importantly, your husband and children support you--that's worth everything.

Cheer up--you'll be amazed by your success after the surgery!

I kept telling myself the same thing--you can follow the diet without the surgery. And I did….MANY TIMES. I can't stop the regain after the diet. I finally faced the fact that if I wanted long term good health, this was my only option.

People who are thin don't understand because they keep it off long term. Those who are overweight and criticize either 1) don't recognize the health issues, 2) are afraid of surgery, or 3) are threatened by the idea of you succeeding.

I know you (and me!) will be successful this time! Hang in there.

That obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) diagnosis just saved your life. A lot of people are in your shoes and have no idea, and that's very scary. I see so many patients that have OSA and don't know it, and before they get discharged from the hospital, I put the fear of God into them and also inform their families. WLS will most likely completely cure you of this problem, but until then, get your CPAP and wear it. Over time OSA puts a bad strain on your heart (especially on the left side) and those changes sometimes can't be corrected. So please take care of yourself and I hope that you'll soon meet all of the requirements and get your sleeve done. Good luck to you.

First check out the obesity statistics:

http://www.cdc.gov/obesity/data/adult.html

You are FAAAAAAR from the only person in the U.S. One-third of the country apparently can't do it either, so please don't beat yourself up.

As @@BitterSweet* said, that diagnosis very well could have saved your life. You're on the right track!

I was on a CPAP for seven years. When the machine broke I couldn't sleep for two days because of choking. Now post-sleeve, I'm actually seeing my sleep doctor next week to determine if I even need the CPAP anymore.

You can do it too. You're beating yourself up for how you got "this point" but aren't realizing there is a way DOWN. The sleeve is working for tens of thousands of people. You're not alone. :)

Peace be with you.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
