Comfortable sleeping position

Recommended Posts

I'm 5 days post op and have been sleeping on back since my sleeve but tonight I just can't get comfortable and I'm extremely tired. So I'm going to attempt to sleep on my side with the body pillow I had from my pregnancy and see how this works tonight. If I don't get sleep I feel myself becoming very aggravated

Oh my gosh....I was sooooo like you when I wanted to sleep....I usually slept on my belly and because of a shoulder surgery I sleep with my arm flung over a body pillow. I slept with a foam wedge with the pillows propped up under one side, right side because of the right arm, that way my upper back at arm was supported and I was able to be kind of on my side too. My insicions on my left side hurt for quite a while so that being said it has been little by little to be able to get almost back to where I was before. My surgery was in May '14....I know it's frustrating but give it time....

Good luck.... :)

It has been 29 days since my surgery and I still can't sleep comfortably on my sides.

I was in about the end of August for mine about 3months or so before I could sleep for a while not all night on my side. I find now is better but it seems like the stars have to be in alignment to be comfortable all night long on my side and it's been 4 months....Give it time....I got frustrated with it because I have a bad shoulder too and need to have it propped up or flung over a body pillow and I'm a belly sleeper. But it seems I still have to be careful and like I said get everything lined up right and comfortable. I think some nights I just get wore out readjusting things and I go to sleep.

Good Luck

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
