My surgery is scheduled for 9-19-14

Recommended Posts

I started my pre-op diet last Wednesday. My diet is 2 shakes + 4 oz lean Protein, 1 cup select veggies, 1 cup select fruit, 2 10 cal snacks(SF Jello or SF Popsicles) and Water, water, water. I have lost 7.4 # since l started.

I am scared and excited. I am really enjoying reading everyone's experiences. We can do this!

Have a blessed day!

briefs199, I just looked prior posts and see that you are the one whose husband wasn't being as supportive as you wanted. I am glad that you are going to be able to have the surgery even if it was a little longer to wait.

BodaciousBev, Briefs199? Sorry if I got that wrong—RogerL—not even going to try to remember sbrown, buddhaBlair, I wish all of you the very best of luck. You have every reason to be excited, and scared. I remember my pre op days, and how terrified I was. I’ll be watching for all of your posts, and I wish you a speedy, uneventful recovery. Getting my band was the best thing I could have done!

I remember all that build-up and excitement, nerves, etc. I had never been an overnight patient in a hospital before (and I'm 53!) -- it was all so much easier than I thought it would be. Maybe because we are choosing it so it's not like being injured or I'll. I looked at it as a gift if was giving myself. Best thing I brought to the surgery was my sense of humor. Now I'm grinning all day because I'm just so happy -- weight loss is great but the getting out of food jail part has been huge for me. Good luck to all!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
