Sweetcin - i was up and down all day with how I felt. Some moments I felt normal, but found out quickly I pushed myself to fast with some of my walking today. I was only able to take in about 16 ounces of fluids today. 8oz Protein shake and 8 oz Isopure Protein juice. I'm trying to get in another 8oz before bed tonight. Other than that the only thing I can say is the best in the world is a HOT SHOWER!!!!!!!! You will love it when you finally get to take one. Good Luck tomorrow! Keep me posted on how you are doing.

Thank you so much for responding MB511. And only 16oz?! Wow that's so little! My doctor told me to target at least 64oz. I'm so worried as to a lot of people after surgery aren't able to really take in very much liquid. So how am I supposed to be getting in all my liquids? ! Ah well I guess I will find out tomorrow! How are you with gas? Any pains?

I think it's going to be a gradual process. Each day aim for a bit more than the day before. I also spent most of yesterday sleeping from my pain meds. This morning I took one of my pills and over the first hour I was awake i was able to intake 8oz of Water and I am feeling MUCH better today than yesterday so I'm sure I will be able to drink more today than yesterday as well. Good Luck today, you will do fine. :)

Sorry for the late reply, but I am finally home , happy, healthy and with no regrets :) I am 5 days out and down 5 lb from day of surgery! I still can feel a small amount of gas in my stomach and intestine when ever I drink something but no major pain at all, im alittle sore when I move but that gets better everyday ( the main sore spot is whare my drain was, in the top left corner)

The incision whare my stomach was removed does not hurt at all, cant even feel it so thats a plus .. I am drinking constantly probably reaching around 40-50 oz per day of Clear Liquids so far, I have started to drink small amount of protien drinks today and have started feeling realy good. I still have not felt hunger.. but I start to get light headed and a little dizzy when I need to put some broth in my stomach lol so I guess my body is still going to find a way to make me eat. On average I can eat about 6-8 small spoon fulls of clear broth before I need to stop for awhile. And I will usually be good for and hour or 2 before wanting some more. On a side note I have not taken any pain meds since I left the hospital dont seem to need them yet :)

Well thats all I can think of, let me know if you have any questions !

Megan

I'm glad you are doing so well. Sounds like you are on a similar plan as what I will be following my surgery 9/23. Clear liquids for a week? Seems I've read a lot of people are drinking Protein Shakes right out of surgery, but my dr protocol is clear fluids for a week, full liquids for a week, week 3&4 puréed and then week 5 normal lifestyle diet. I was super nervous do to a glitch in cardiologist referral meds, but yesterday had my last visit with surgeon before surgery and today I start the excitement again. liquid diet starts Sunday for me.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
