2 years out and not losing.

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone. I had the sleeve done in sept of 2012. I started out at 340 and am down to 278. While I'm thankful that I've lost 62 pounds, I'm very discouraged that I didn't lose the 120 I was told id lose. . I got down to 260 and gained about 20 pounds back. Yes it was due to diet and lack if exercise. I feel as though my food intake is not restricted enough. I can eat 3 or so cups of food at a time. I try to eat 1,000 calories but I always end up going over. I also don't exercise regularly. Maybe 3 times every other week. I have since started a high Protein very low carb diet. Hope that helps. Any advice on how to start losing. And gaining ground again?

I don't have any new tips.. it's the same old stuff.... going back to the basics.

My hunger is best managed when i do the following:

1. Protein first, followed by green veggies/salad with very limited carbs. That means no junk food, no fast food, no rice, no Pasta, very limited on healthy breads and fruits. I know they are good for me - but they make me hungry. I do eat berries everyday.

2. Small quantities, stop eating before full, just to absence of hunger

3. Stay hydrated. Water between meals

4. If you have even a hint of acid reflux, take a PPI, - extra acid can feel like hunger

5. Stay busy and build a happy life not around food. I am single and intentionally won't date a "foodie" - I need food to be for sustaince not as a main source of entertainment.

6. I think exercise IS important, but an active lifestyle is too. Choose to DO instead of watch. When you decide what to do for a recreation day, pick things that keep you in motion.

The thing about the sleeve is that it does restrict your quantity, but if you consistently eat a to "full" you start to lose that tight feeling. IT can be found again, but it takes some work. Also, it is possible to pack too many carbs and calories into even small portions so what you eat is important too.

Hang in there! you can do it!

Thank you Wynnie! These are very helpful. I need to start gaining that "tight" feeling again and I think the best way is, like you said, eat less. Also I never knew acid in the stomach could make you feel hungry... Maybe that's some of the problem!!! THANK YOU :-) James.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
