Protein drinks ... how long do you have to use them

Recommended Posts

I ask this because I ordered mine ... I purchased the Unjury and got the strawberry sorbet .... I also purchased the vanilla samples and I like the vanilla better...I don't want to buy more than I need so I was just wondering if the Protein Drinks were going to be long term...anyone that can help?

I have been drinking Protein drinks for a year now I started drinking the pre-opt while going though my 6 month pre opt supervised weight lost prior to my surgery , I drink a Protein Drink everyday now and probably will be drinking one for the rest of my life. This gives me 30 grams of Protein a day which is a big boost toward my goal. I would buy to many pre-opt because your taste buds will changed, I too bought the unjury as well as Unjury chicken noodle Soup and i cant drink it now unless I force myself. Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.

My program NUT said daily Protein Shakes until I reach goal weight. I have an assortment of flavors and extracts to provide variety. I anticipate daily shakes for the next 2 years. I expect to get tired of them from time to time, but this is my new reality. I'm committed, so daily shakes it is.

I haven't had a Protein drink since I was on liquids/purees. I just don't like drinking them - I prefer to eat real food, and my understanding is that that's the best way to go (so many chemicals in most of them). I just focus on Protein on every meal - mostly chicken and fish, so I don't have a problem hitting my protein goals without the drinks.

Many people have trouble getting in enough protein without them though... I'd say don't stock up more than you'll need for the first month or so, and then you can determine if you still need them once on solids.

I stopped using them as well once I could eat solid food for Snacks, I eat Quest Protein bars instead as get fuller feeling for longer from them and similar nutrition wise. However, my NUT has said several times that I can include Protein shakes as Snacks if I wish. So it is down to personal choice once you can eat the solid Protein, if you like the shakes you can use them as an extra source of protein.

I drink 1 everyday & will for the rest of my life. I have a friend that had sleeve surgery about 3 years ago & she told me she drinks one everyday & she looks great. What amazes me is that she lost about 150 lbs & her skin doesn't sag a lot. The 30g I get in a shake is a good start for the day & I'm less likely to not get in all of my daily Protein allotment.

I also use a Protein Shake every day. I like starting the day with 30+ grams of Protein. You made a good choice with Unjury. They are a great quality whey protein isolate and guarantee ingredients to be "China Free". By the way my favorite is the chocolate Splendor

We were told my the NUT to try to start getting all Protein from food. I'm 8 weeks out. She said to view protein supplements as like an inhaler when you're desperate to get protein in for that day. She stressed that food has nutrients that you simply don't get from the supplements. That's her view but as you can tell it appears to be different from what other posters have been told.

I'm another one who just can't eat enough to get the Protein in without a shake most days and I am 9 months out. I have one a day most days.

Everyone has a feeling about Protein shakes. Should I or shouldn't I? Some people won't be able to drink them because they don't like the taste or prefer not to drink them. But Protein Shakes consisting of whey Protein isolate are almost universally recommended as a post surgery liquid diet for bariatric patients. Why is this? They are a great source of protein needed by the body to heal and help with the transition to a regular diet. They are real food. They are milk based and Whey is a byproduct of cheese production

If you do a little research you will see that there is a difference in content of whey protein products. Whey Protein Isolate has the highest percent protein content and is the fastest absorbed by the body. It also helps with retaining and building muscle. That is why it is recommended by NUT's post surgery. Whey protein, Whey concentrate and Protein supplements are different products used in different ways.

I have no problem with people trying to ge protein needs without shakes, I would not be able to meet my protein needs on a daily basis without having a Protein shake. Mostly because I can't eat that much food. My NUT is in full agreement.

I eat so liitle food also and would not be able to make over 60 a day...I love the shakes and have enjoyed drinking them for almost 10 years, first as a bandster now as a sleever...I eat abt 3-4 bites and Im full so i cant get the full serving of protein...i guess if you are able to get your numbers in food then good for you :) unfortunately i cant :(

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
