Ya! A Sask. Girl! Just wondering if you had your surgery in Regina?

I haven't had surgery yet. I'm in the pre-surgery program. Hopefully it will be in Jan. 2015. How about you?

I started last Nov. and completed the 6 months. I know it sounds crazy but I loved it! I enjoyed meeting with nutritionist/exercise therapist/psychologist. I am now on the wait list. I was called to go on Sept. 8th for surgery but had to decline the date due to work. I am hoping to go in Oct./Nov. How are you finding the program?

Well, I find the program very stressful. I don't find that I am getting the help I need from the dietician which makes going there not enjoyable. I don't have any way to weigh myself in between appts. So I never know how I did until I get there. That is hard to wait and see how I did. I got Xtended in the pre- assessment program for 2 more months so I feel bad about that. So I found a diet online cuz doing it by myself wasn't working. Hopefully I can get 10 more lbs off so I can get the surgery in jan. I'm finding the diet easier to follow now that I have a plan. Not having a plan made picking what to eat stressful. So I'm feeling better about it for now.

Hi, brand new to this forum group as well to the Bariatric program in Regina. I just finished the pre-assessment clinic and now will begin the six month pre surgery program.

I'm wondering how the a Sask people are doing and how post op progress is? Also, have you found other on-line forums or message boards where Sask people have posted their comments.

Many thanks.

Hi, I am also in Regina, Sk. I am pre-surgery - getting my surgery in Mexico so that I can skip the waiting. I am curious to know what kind of help you are getting from the bariatric program? Is it the same old "eat less and exercise more" kind of bs? Cuz we all know how well THAT works! ;)

But seriously, I would love to know what kind of diet they want you to follow, since I don't get any pre-op assistance at all. I think I have to do fluids only for a week before surgery, but that's all.

@@Dawn306 Hi Dawn, I'm considering Dr Ponce de leon as well. Can you tell me how your surgery went and if you would recommend him?

Thanks!

Hi, yes, I would totally recommend dr. Ponce de leon. He is very well respected there in Tijuana. He has an assistant, Dr. Garcia, who speaks very good English, and he does all of the pre and post explanation. He is super good! Made sure I was comfortable with knowing what I could eat, and how long to take to eat, etc. He even was on call by telephone when I had some issues a day after I had left the hospital. There is a hotel there that lots of people use for recuperating from various surgical procedures. It's called the Grand Hotel. I would recommend staying there.

@@Dawn306 Thanks for the quick response! Did you book with Trish?

How have you found follow up care back here in Sask?

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
