100% REGRET THIS SLEEVE GASTRECTOMY

Recommended Posts

I regret having this surgery I wish I would have never gotten it. I had my sleeve done on August 11th and here it is August 17th and im still in the hospital because nothing stays down. My surgeon found that I had a hiatul hernia and repaired it during surgery. However, I still have not been able to eat or drink after that...so then he does a dialation and what do u know still nothing is going down to my pouch. I now have to get a stent put in my sleeve to see if that allows me to have any kind of success with holding anything down if not then he will perform gastric bypass on me...I dont think anyone can imagine how i feel right now...Have anyone else experienced this or something similiar if so please enlighten me on your journey please because I feel just feel like what i anticipated being the best decision i made in my life turned out to be the very worst decision of my life.

Oh my. So sorry to hear of your complications. I have not been sleeved yet so I can't comment on the issues you are having...and I'm writing to let you know that you are not alone! I know there will be folks who will be able to share with you. I will keep you in my thoughts and hope that things improve for you soon.

Sorry to hear what happened. I had my sleeve done on the 11th but with no issue. The good thing is longterm u will be happy with the results in spite of the short term complications. Wish u well.

I was sleeved on 8/4 and spent extra time in the hospital because I was unable to keep Water down and had constant dry heaves. I've had anesthesia several times in recent years and have never had nausea, so this was definitely sleeve related. I second guessed my choice a million time in those days. I had every kind of nausea medicine, and finally got some relief from Xanax, of all things. Even now almost two weeks later, things don't go down well...I'm certainly not yelling "love my sleeve!!!" Like most people I see on here. But this is my journey, and I am determined to see it through. Hang in there and just take it one day at a time. Don't give up yet, we all have our own journey.

Did the doctor say what caused your complications? Has he/she done many sleeve surgeries?

I am so sorry for your pain. You are experiencing what I fear most about this surgery. How long would you have the stint in?

Ahh man! I am sorry to hear about this! I was sleeved a little over 3 weeks ago, and so far so good.. with the exception of possibly tearing a stich. I hope you start feeling better and turn out happy with your decision. Again, I am sorry for your complication. Keeping you in my prayers. :(

Hello,

I am so sorry to hear what you are going through. I had some difficulty where there was so much swelling I couldn't get anything into my sleeve either. I was in the hospital for 5 days on iv's. When released I couldn't get more than 8 oz of Water in in 24 hours and I have also had excessive pain. I am just over 4 weeks out and still have a lot of pain on my right side. I have also had buyers remorse but I did not have to convert to bypass. Hopefully that is a good alternative for you and you will lose faster than with the sleeve. I know this is not much help. I hope everything is resolved for you soon. Please take care, it has to get better.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
