Why can't I lose? :'0(

Recommended Posts

Hi. I'm 5'6 and was 172 the day of survey 6/27/2014.

Almost at the end of my 2nd month and I'm 151 lbs. I won't lie......I'm super frustrated. The majority of the weight fell off the first month, and now it simply won't budge....and it makes me want to scream. I had much better results with the Lapband until it slipped and they removed it May 2011.

I know weigh loss is slower with lower BMIs but this is ridiculous. I can't eat barely anything, my energy is zapped, my brain feels mushy ( not a good thing when I'm trying to finish my RN program) and still my scale doesn't move.

Yes, I drink my Water and get most of my Protein in most days. I also walk 2-3 times a day at least 2 miles. I don't have the energy to do anything more strenuous than that, unfortunately.

Sigh...don't mean to be a downer...just a little depressed about this process.

Please don't respond with, "you're down 20lbs! So great!"......I know that's good and much more than I could have done on my own. I know. :0)

I just feel like the weight won't budge and I spent almost $5,000 and took out my half my stomach for nothing.

--------depressed----------

I am also experiencing really bad orthostatic hypotension- I feel very dizzy and sometimes almost faint when I stand up. I naturally have low BP, typically 100/60, and I feel like this surgery made my symptoms worse simply bc I can't eat enough at any one time and nursing does not lend itself to regular meals/snacks.

I'm usually pretty optimistic! I swear! Lol

This sleeve is throwing me in a big bad funk.

Any advice is greatly appreciated. Any one else have a job/profession that makes snacking really hard? What do you do to maintain your energy?

I feel ya! I lost pretty consistently for 4 weeks and have stalled myself. But I cheated and weighed myself this morning (I usually wait till Tuesdays) and finally looks like I have lost some. I'm tired easy too and my Migraines are acting up which really does not help. But I'm trying to keep the faith and do the best at what is required. I've also decided not to beat myself up. If you know you are doing your best, then pat yourself on the back and keep on going. We can do it!

Take care!

Scrapbasket, how do you combat it? My clinical rotation currently is critical care pts in a step down unit, plus the ED and OR. There's no way I can get a break and as a student nurse, they frown on us bringing in Water bottles. I'm on the floor from 6:30 to noon before I get to sit and take in Fluid but I can't get enough in me in the allotted lunch break. By 1500, I literally want to push a pt over on their bed, so I can lay down and steal their IV! I don't think that's allowed though.......;@)

Do you know about how many calories you are getting in right now?

SherB....

Not really sure. Sometimes 300, sometimes more. Never more than 500.

My goal this week is to list everything in fitness pal. I've been lazy in that regard.

Maybe I'm getting too little. I tried to get more in but then the scale jumped up 3 lbs and didn't come off for a week. Yes, I freaked out.

My education tells me one thing regarding nutrition and how the body works......but experience with my body tells a different story. Again, frustrating.

I wonder if you are getting enough calories. Nursing is hard work, on your feet a lot plus walking. Just a suggestion if you are not getting a lot of calories in is to try to increase them by 200 or so. I was in a long stall and increased my calories and started to lose again. I was only getting around 500-600 calories a day and it wasn't enough.

Oh, 500 is not enough trust me. Some days sure that is fine but I would really try to bump them up some with some healthy Protein or a shake. Your body is probably hanging on the every calorie and going into starvation mode. cheese sticks are a quick on the go snack too. Please try to add some calories for a few days and see what happens. You may be wearing yourself out due to lack of food. Best of luck.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
