Finished my final round of preop testing this past week, one of which was my psych eval. My psych dr said that it should be early next week when she is able to get the clearance letter, the final piece, to my surgeon and then I'll be submitted for insurance! Can't believe it's almost time!

The only thing throwing a wrench in everything is that I'm supposed to go on a 3 Day cruise the second weekend of October. I'm totally hoping to have surgery before I go but I don't know if that's going to happen. I'm going to ask my surgeon. I'm supposed to be on a specific 2 week diet before surgery so I'm going to do my best to have this surgery quickly, even if it means doing this diet on the boat!

I am in the same place you are. I have my psychological evaluation next Friday, then my paperwork will be submitted to the insurance company for approval. I am hoping to get revised from the lap band to rny. The surgeon said that I definitely need my band out, but he is working on getting the revision approved so I don't have a huge out of pocket expense.

I was told, once the paperwork has been sent, I should have an answer within 2 weeks because of the band problems, but then I will have a pre-op class to attend. I too have a cruise planned for mid October but I may have to cancel. I wanted to go so bad, but if it comes down to surgery or the cruise, I will choose the surgery. If its too close, I may still cancel. I don't know how fun it will be if I am on a post-op liquid diet :)

I wish you all the best with your journey.

Thank you and good luck to you as well! What is the cancellation policy on cruise lines regarding refunds. I'd get out of going on my cruise if I could to go ahead and have surgery lol.

Daron, did you buy the insurance when you purchased your cruise? If you cancel, you don't get much of your money back, if any this close out. If you purchased the insurance, you can get a refund.

I had my psych eval last Friday. The Dr said he thought everything should be a go for my surgery, at least from his stand point. He said he felt I knew what I was doing and was ready to make the needed changes. Now just waiting for insurance approval. I keep checking my insurance company's website, but I am sure the Surgeon's office will find out before Humana actually puts a pending claim on their page.

Moose, good luck to you as well. I am soooo very ready to get this surgery done with and get back to be healthy and energetic.

Good to hear everyone is on a steady course to fat freedom!! I am moving slowly now, after moving really fast in the process. My insurance has requested that I have a Pulmonary Function Test, so I am waiting for that to be scheduled. I guess since that is all they asked for, if it comes back ok, then I will be on my way to scheduling. My last nutrition appointment is this Wednesday. It would be really nice to get this going in a couple of weeks. So ready!!!

Good Luck to you Bring It On. I am still waiting. It is driving me crazy, LOL!!! Maybe I will hear something this week. I still need to attend a pre-op class, but they won't schedule it until I am approved. If I don't hear something in a few more days, I am going to call both the Surgeon's office and my insurance. I am soooo ready!!!!!

Something showed up on my EKG so I had to see a cardiologist yesterday. After another EKG the Dr. Told me there were 3small problems with my heart that will not stop my RNY surgery but change the risk factor from low to intermidiate. They also bumped my pre op to 9/30. They also want an echocardiogram now. I never had any heart problems and had EKGs before several other surgeries so I'm not worried and just want to have the RNY so i can get on with my life. I'm really looking forward to not having to take insulin and meds for hbp and cholesteral. Now the soonest I can have the surgery will be the middle of Oct. Good luck to everyone else. Hope all goes well for you

Good Luck to you Moose. I hope your echo turns out well. I am glad you will still be able to have your surgery. Quick weight loss after surgery can be taxing on your heart as well, so if there is something to be concerned with, at least they will have a baseline in which to monitor you.

Use this as a gift!! Maybe this heart issue is something that could really have been devastating later. I would take this as a sign that you are on the right track in keeping your health in check. Good luck with your tests. Hope all goes well and you are able to complete your mission!!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
