when do you start losing weight

Had bypass 7/28. Weight is very slow to come off. Have only lost 8#. Shouldn't it be more?

Hi it comes off between 1-3 pounds a week but everyone is different and you may have stalls remember as long as your eating right and getting in your Protein and walk the weight will come off everyone is different and loose weight differently . Congrats on your choice to be healthy.

I'm averaging five pounds a week and I am four weeks post-op. Started my liquid diet two weeks before surgery so in six weeks I am down 40 pounds.

I am averaging 1-2 lbs a day, normally 1. My surgery was on 7-16, but I have also spent ten days in the hospital and gained 20 lbs of Fluid weight. Everyone is different, and there are the stalls, like another poster said.

I find the more Protein I get in the better. My surgery was 7/21 and so far I am down (from surgery) 18 lbs. I try not to weigh myself everyday - I try once a week. It's hard but I hate it when I am a slave to the scale. Everyone is different, we didn't put the weight on overnight...it will take time to come off. Be patient, keep up on your protein and exercise and STAY STRONG...YOU CAN DO THIS!!

Dawnakers you are so right getting in your Protein is so very important and as I have learned and repeat over and over again protein is always first when you eat anything.

8 pounds is awesome!!! A loss is a loss. Depending on your bmi it can also be slower.. I'm losing about 1-3 a week I'm a low bmi but honestly as long as your drinking Water eating good Protein staying away from fatty foods and carbs you will keep losing. Don't sweat it!!!

A loss is a loss. I know that the biggest adjustment is making sure to get enough to eat. It is a struggle at times because I am experiencing some aversion to food--especially meat Protein.

I thought my weight would come off faster too. My surgeon told me my hormones would change and that there would be a honeymoon phase where I probably wouldn't be hungry. Well, as in real life my honeymoon was very short. I am always hungry. As for other things.... I felt great the first three weeks....high energy and was able to sleep all night. But, I didn't think when he said hormone change he meant the crying/mad episodes like I had during menopause! I can't even stand myself!!!!I The changes in my body also kicked my Rheumatoid Arthritis out of remission and I'm in A LOT of pain and depression over that. I had my RNY on July 14. I lost 20 lbs pre-surgery and have lost almost another 20....but it's taken 5 weeks to do it on a 500-600 calorie diet. Because of the severe pain I've been in, I haven't been able to do my work or walking the last two weeks. I had very little pain after surgery. I have no food aversions and no dumping. I can eat anything. I guess it's going to be slow going with me.

      I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
      I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
      Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

      Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
