Coming home to an empty house after surgery...

Recommended Posts

Except for my 3 dogs I will be all alone after my sleeve surgery. My cousin and my good friend are picking me up but after they get me settled in I am on my own.

Is this realistic? I have a client who recently had the surgery and he was fine with it so I planned accordingly but now I am starting to worry a little. I have plenty of friends on call and I am good friends with everyone on my block but the first night is my biggest worry.

Has anyone here done this alone? Any input about this? I really prefer to be sick in private.

You'll be fine. They want you to be up and around to keep from getting blood clots. By that weekend I had run to the store and the mall. You'll just be weak so don't go too hard. Make sure you have Water. :)

I have 3 dogs and live alone, as well. I did have someone stay with me the first night. I didn't really need her there, but it was comforting to know. I should also say that I was done as an outpatient and came home about 4 hours after my surgery. Due to my sister's insistence I also had someone stay with me the second night, but really didn't need them. On my third day home I sent my "nurses" away.

It was helpful to have my help feed the dogs. It was hard to bend over and pick up their bowls and put them back down.

You could do it. Just keep your kiddos off of your stomach (mine are lap dogs and they really didn't understand that!). If you can have help the first night you might feel more comfortable, but will be fine. Good luck!

You will do fine. I had a friend bring me home. They stayed for a little while then left. Just make sure you have Water beside where you will be. Do the dogs go out on their own or you walk them. Walking is good but don't over do it the first couple days or have them pull you.

I have a big fenced in yard for my little dog so I don't have to walk them. I can have a neighbor feed them the first day or two. I really hope I can get right out a be walking right away.

Lisa N...how the heck did you come to be home 4 hours after surgery!!! You must be made of steel!

I spent the first 3 days/nights in a hotel with my sister in TJ. Spent the days shopping and walking, spent the nights hanging out, watching movies. I would have been fine, physically even without her company. Day 4 I came home to 2 dogs, 2 cats, 2 horses and a driveway full of snow. I managed on my own just fine.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
