Pre-op eating question

Recommended Posts

Im hoping to have RNY before the end year. I've finished my weight loss trial and going thru all the other requireents for surgery. But now that I know I've made up my mind and Im doing it, why do I feel like I need to eat everything because I will never be able to eat it again? Did anyone else feel this way or are they going thru this now? Some days I do well and others I feel like its the last supper. Please advise.

Thanks

I felt the exact same way soon after I made the decision to pursue weight loss surgery. Took me a couple weeks and gaining a couple pounds to get a grip and slow down. I needed to make sure I didn't gain weight on my three months medically managed weight loss for my insurance. Needless to say I got real strict real fast on my eating and was able to lose 5 pounds in July. But the feeling is totally normal and understandable . Everything I've been reading and researching points to the fact that 6 months to a year out will be able to eat a few bites of some things we like . It just takes awhile for the pouch to heal and to become less sensitive. I'm still doing the three-month processing of my insurance requirements but hoping to have surgery in the end of October

Thanks guys. Im trying so hard. I think part of it is that I had to go on a round of prednisone for my sciatic nerve and we all know it makes you hungry; so I know ive gained a few lbs. They didn't tell me I couldnt gain. Oh well...my last weigh in is Friday so maybe they will take all that into consideration... I've started trying to drink Protein Shakes for Breakfast and lunch. I pray I get myself together fast!!!! Thanks again.

I can appreciate what you're saying about having that feeling of "never being able to eat certain foods again". I just got approved for my for my surgery. I don't have a date as of yet. I love to bake and I feel the need to bake. I need to get it together. I really want to be successful. I really dread the Protein shakes that I've tried. I thought that the fuzzy navel nectar would be good maybe I didn't use the right combination of ingredients, it was terrible to me. I'm going to try the unjury Protein a lot of people claim that its really good. Luckily, I can get a sample package. Hopefully, we both will get it together and get a routine with those shakes.< /strong>

Hi one thing I forgot to mention is that I'm doing the My Fitness Pal app . It's really helpful to keep track of what you're eating but more importantly keeps track of your calories for the day and make sure to be mindful not to go over a certain amount . It's really easy to use once you get on there and get the hang of it. I suggest you guys give it a try I think you'll find it very helpful and the app is free

I can add you as a friend on My Fitness Pal but I think I need your contact information or your Facebook information. I haven't added anyone as a friend on Fitness Pal so you would be the first one and I'm just going by what the Fitness Pal prompt said to add a friend. But I definitely would do it if we can figure it out between the two of us

Oh yeah !! Prior to the preop I ate too much and as an only OCC drinker had margaritas every night. BUT the minute I started preop that foolish behavior was DONE!!

Oh lord thank you. Im finally trying to reel it in. I know its a mind thing. Im now at the point where nothing is even good to me anymore. So I think this week I will be able to tame those feelings of "eat it now because you won't be able to later". I thought I was the only one who felt like that. Luckily Im not gaining. So ready to get started. My pre op will be 5 days Clear Liquids with the last 2 days cleaning my guts for surgery. My center of excellence is having a bariatrics fashion show Monday night. Some of the ones who have already had surgery will be modeling....Im excited to be attending it to see what I will look like next year!!! Psych eval on Thursday so Im moving right along. Thanks!!!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
