I've lost well over a 100 pounds since my surgery. I went from a size 28 pants to a size 12. Problem is, when I go cloths shopping, I still go to the plus size section. Just the other day I bought a cute shirt - 3X! When I put it on the next day, it was clearly too big! Am I crazy? Does anyone else not "realize" how much weight they have lost?

I don't think I would buy the larger size but I am always asking my husband if I am smaller or bigger than someone walking by me. I have no idea how I look. I know I can wear size 16. but don't know what that means.

OMG I do this too! I tell my husband "look around and show me someon that is the same size as me". He rolls his eyes! lol

No, sorry I don't have that problem. I just go to the size 10's, and then start giggling. To each their own, but congrats to all for your success ! Way to go !

I know my own concept of 'personal size' began shifting when I EMOTIONALLY realized I was no longer usually the largest person in the room.

And the sudden discovery there were entire STORES that sold clothing mismarked without "XXXX" in the size tag.

Perhaps the BIGGEST 'NSV' I've never listed here, is when I suddenly realized when wiping in the bathroom, I no longer was a "go between" but suddenly had the optional "go around" approach.

Body dysmorphia in our psychic software is subject to a lot of discussion from time to time.

Being able to slip between partially open doors, or when doing home chores, being able to fit into a space previously inaccessible, was a clue for me as much as 'size' on my clothing.

Getting rid of all the old XXXX stuff helped, but I did keep one set of 'fat clothes' just to remind of where I had been.

It's odd to hold those old 56-58 sports shorts up now, but there I was.

And here I am, still a bit confused about 'what size AM I'......

seeing that reflection in the store windows without the 'usual crowd' following my every step.....

You have done amazing work!!! Pat yourself on the back! I have only lost 30 lbs but I have a hard time seeing it..Everyone sees it but me..I've been used to plus sized clothes for so long that I'm sure when I get smaller I'll have to stop myself from looking there.

I am so confused about sizes that I don't even bother. I will know I am truly a size ten once I fit into a Levi's shirt I wore in college. I kept it, my daughters later wore it, and now they gave it back to me because I'm gonna fit in it by my next birthday. That shirt was from 1979 when a size ten was a size ten. I was five feet six and 155 pounds when I was a size ten. Now I've shrunk to 5 feet 5 inches, so I'll have to be down to 145 probably. I'm glad the shirt is a classic, and you bet your butt I'm gonna wear it till it falls apart.

I just bought a few shirts like 2 weeks ago when I tried them in the store they fit just right now I have to keep pulling them up so the girls or bra straps aren't showing also I still go to the plus size & start there then I go to what they consider the normal sizes and start at the biggest size and go down till I find what fits , sometimes I even take 3 of the same pants or shirts but in different sizes to make sure what fits and I'm comfortable with, some makes are smaller than others it depends on the cut.

Someone took pictures of our softball game Sunday, and got a good one of me....I kept looking at it thinking how fat I looked, and trying to compare myself to people in other photos.....

And Yet...in that photo.....I am wearing size SMALL Under Armour shorts, and size MEDIUM Under Armour shirt.....I still cannot get my brain to accept what it is clearly looking at?

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
