Did anyone start their fast early? I know this sounds crazy but I was thinking of starting my fast a week early. I feel ready to begin. I have my Protein Shakes, and since I don't meet with my dietician till next week for my two week fast I'm wondering what else you are allowed to have. Did anyone start their fast early and what were you guys allowed to eat? sugar free pops? broth? Protein Bars?

I did. I felt like it stopped me from having any more "last suppers," and it also gave me a little more wiggle room to get used to the liquid diet. After about four days, when I started to feel really crappy, I had a small piece of salmon for dinner. The next night I had a small pice of steak. And I didn't have to worry that I was "cheating" because I wasn't technically even supposed to be on the diet yet. So I think it really helped me.

I didn't start my pre op diet early but I had to be on it for 2 weeks. Some people have posted that they only had to be on this diet for 1 week. I had to drink 3 Protein shakes per day (60 - 80 grams total for women, men get 80 - 100 per day), sugar free Clear liquids, unlimited (Crystal light, unsweetened tea, Water, broth, Decaf coffee-no sugar), sugar free popsicles & my Multivitamin. I also had to follow this same liquid diet post op for 2 weeks & then went to the soft foods.

I know different doctors require different things but my surgeon is pretty conservative & I did not have any issues after surgery. Very little pain, no gas or nausea. I had to go an antibiotic for 10 days that made me sick so I drank powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chicken broth when I felt sick & it worked like a charm. It's better than the canned stuff. I just had to put a little bit of salt in it. For some reason I had a big salt craving. I wanted salty stuff, not sweet stuff. My nurse said this wasn't unusual. I didn't crave sweets & still don't - what a blessing that is.

Good luck with your pre op diet & with your surgery. You will be amazed at how fast the time goes. Hang in there & follow your doctor's orders. You will be better for it.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
