Insurance coverage for plastics?

Recommended Posts

I am really wanting a Tummy Tuck now that I am at a good weight for myself. I don't think I need to lose much more but the excess skin on my stomach keeps me from being completely happy with my results. I'm wondering if anybody has had any luck with getting their insurance to cover plastic surgery?

From what I've read on this site, generally not, only if you have skin degradation that doesn't heal. To cut costs, many people do a lot of due diligence and find really good plastic surgeons in Mexico and have had great results. Just use the Search feature... not just on who does plastic surgery and their results, but, for example, how to check credentials advertised.

My insurance is covering my skin removal and it wasn't hard at all. Just ask what there requirements are and work with a plastic surgeon or your doctor to work in getting it covered. Mine required 3 things: medical treatment like bacteria or fungus cream/powder for rash/chaffing/infections for 3 months or more, the skin has to hang onto the pubis and pictures to prove it. They are strict about what they will cover, which is only skin removal from the pubic line to the belly button, nothing above or on the back side and no muscle tightening. Good luck!

Thank you for that information! I haven't had any issues with infection but I do meet the other requirements. I think I will set up a consultation : )

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
