Chanda,

Good for you for making that call. Get this...I go to Dr. Pace and Leatherwood's office too. I usually see Mr. Jeworski and he's the one who did my paperwork for Dr. Brody. It sounds like you will be good to go real quickly. I didn't even know that Jorgina had send in my paperwork and all of a sudden I got a call from her to schedule my surgery. So...it really doesn't take much time. Good luck and keep me informed of the progress!!!

Ok Tina,

We really have way to much in common! I noticed that we both were the same age but this is way to scary. If you tell me you live off of Middletown I will fall out of my chair.

I Dr. Jeworski a tall, sort of large man? I think I meet with him last month when I went for a visit. I am not sure who I will see on Thursday, but now that you told me that I will make sure to ask for him to write the report.

OK...no need to fall out of your chair. I live off of St. Peter's Church Road. You are right though...we do have a lot in common. Mr. Jeworski is actually not a doctor. He's a nurse practitioner. I usually see him because it's easy to get an appointment and he's very nice. When I told him that I wanted to get lap band he said...I know what to do. Six months later, I was on my way to Dr. Brody's office. My insurance requires six months, so that's what we did. Anyway...everyone in that office is very helpful. Good luck and keep me informed.

Tina,

You are in my back yard, I too can access my house from off of St. Peters Church Road. I live in the Pinefield Community. Seems like you are doing good. Keep up the good work.

Hey Tanya...how have you been? Yes...we are neighbors. I live right near Pinefield. Small, small world, huh? I go to the Pinefield Curves, too. Do you go there? Have you ever been? I usually go on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday or Saturday. If you have never been, you should give it a try. It's quite fun (and quick).

Yes I have been to that Cruves. I had a free trial pass and went for 2 visits but have not been back. Dont ask why and I wont have to tell you that I am allergic to the gyms and lazy. Really I try to exercise on my own. I ride my bike and I swim.

Goodmorning to the Southern Maryland Crew!

Good news. I have a DATE! My new birthday will be July 12th! I am so excited and can't wait at the same time.

Believe it or not GW submitted my paperwork to BCBS/Carefirst on Monday and they called on Tuesday with approval and a date!

I tell you everything that my "Lapband Angel" Tina has told me has been right on the money. I took a proactive approach and in less than I month I got all the paperwork done and approved. And as Tina told me GW Hospital's staff is on point and if you do what they tell you to do the rest is on them to make it happen.

Thanks to you all for the support and I will keep you posted.

Now I just have to get my grocery list together and prepare for the surgery. All suggestions are welcome.

Take care gang & and see you on 301 (hopefully a few pounds lighter),

Chanda

Thank you. I have the countdown going...'only' 49 more days. I'm about to start shopping for the stuff I'm gonna need. I need to get some samples of the various Protein shakes and find out which ones I like before I buy a big 'ol $50 box...just to find out they're nasty!

I was just thinking about the shakes this morning Chimboree. I was thinking back to my Slimfast dayz and wondering if we freeze them just a little they may taste like a fake milkshake? Just a thought. Probably will go over to BJ's this weekend to stock up on a few different flavors........

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
