I'm on a liquid diet to try and help me lose the extra five lbs that's required before I have surgery. And this Is by far the hardest thing that I've ever had to do. Omg how do you guys do It????

I had to do this for three days before surgery and it was hard! I avoided places that had food or food smells (mall, movies, etc) and spent my time at the pool or at home. My husband ate all his meals out which helped a lot! I was grouchy and tired and wobbly but I did it because I knew I had to in order to get my surgery. BTW no one warned me about the diarrhea.... consider yourself warned!

It is tough but in the big scheme of things it's such a small blip of time and it means your big day is coming. Stay strong.

I think my headache is from weening off caffeine...I dont want that caffeine headache during recovery! Luckily its not crazy bad. You CAN do it! I love the site but sometimes it gets my anxiety going!

I know the feeling I love Coke. And I was a smoker as well but I quit cold turkey. I'm actually surprised because I haven't even thought about a Coke nor cigarette. You just have to have the right mind set I guess :)

Not sure what your program does or doesn't allow during this stage, as they all seem to be different, but what helped me the most was the sugar-free Jello.

In my program, it wasn't only a liquid diet, but a CLEAR liquid diet. This meant no Protein shakes, which really hurt my energy levels.

Luckily, they did allow us to have 1 Isopure Protein Drink (they're clear) each day, so at least I got those 40 grams of Protein. Otherwise it was a constant battle.

I did try the sugar-free popsicles, as I'd heard from others that they really helped. Unfortunately they didn't sit well in my stomach so I wasn't able to enjoy them as an option.

I was not looking forward to this part of the process! I had to switch doctors at one point and I'm glad I did, my first doc was going to have me on 2 weeks liquid diet but the doctor I ended up with is awesome! He had me on a strict meat and veggie diet for the week before surgery. I can say that even that after a week was hard because no dairy or carbs at all but much better than liquid only. Good luck and hang in there!

I just started my two week liquid pre-op diet yesterday. I am glad it's here because it means I am that much closer to my surgery ,,. Aug 19th! You just have to make that commitment that you will do whatever it takes. Stay optimistic! You CAN do this. Like Jessica says, it is such a small blip of time in the big picture of your new self. I live with my sister (my best supporter) and she makes her own meals and I make mine. I used to do all the cooking, but just don't want to be that close to real food atm lol. I can't smell anymore, which at this time is really a good thing.

Stay strong! It's so close now.

By the way, not sure about your doctor, but my doctor allows Almond milk.

Quick question...when you get diarrhea due to the pre-op liquid diet...can you take Immodium or Pepto Bismol to "plug you up" or does that defeat the purpose of the liquid diet to "clean you out"? Sorry if it's TMI.

I'm pretty sure they want your intestines all cleaned out and ready for the surgery, so I wouldn't take something to stop it.

Good point, winning_by_losing.

Can I ask all the post-ops, if y'all had diarrhea with the liquid diet (pre- or post-op), did you ever feel you had to resort to "Depends" or some other panty liner. Meaning was the diarrhea or loose stool that bad?

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
