Looking for buddies/support :)

Recommended Posts

Hi guys! I'm not really sure if anyone under the age of 30 even uses this site, but I thought I'd give it a whirl.

First off, I'll introduce myself. I'm Carson and I'm 16.
I had the gastric sleeve on March 3rd, 2014, before I turned 16 in May. It's been almost 5 months. I'm 6 feet tall (very tall for a girl, but most people say when I'm finished loosing weight I could probably model, so that's a yay!)
SW: 251
CW: 192
GW: 150

But anyways, recently I've been getting back to my old ways even though I'm ashamed to say it. Before the surgery, I was pretty much addicted to carbs, more specifically, chips, and even MORE specifically, hot cheetos. I could eat 2-3 family sized bags of hot cheetos a day before the surgery. I told myself that afterwards, I wouldn't go near hot cheetos ever again. And I stuck to it.

I'd found a replacement for my evil addiction, the lightly salted Snap Pea Crisps from Calbee's (I think that's the brand). They weren't spicy, and they were still carbs, but at least they had loads of Fiber so after I ate them I always ended up...well, "disposing" of them soon after. But then, they stopped selling them at my grocery store. I checked every store within an hour's driving distance, notta. That's when things got bad.

I've let myself get badly addicted to carbs again. Not nearly as bad as before, but way more than I want to be. I've had hot cheetos multiple times since the surgery, along with so many other chips and junk food things.

I've kinda been in a stall for at least a month. I actually put back on 5 lbs! But now I really want to completely cut out carbs as much as I can for awhile. I guess I'm just here looking for someone around my age who'd want to help me out or encourage me! I've got kik and instagram and twitter if anyone's interested in hitting me up and possibly being buddies! :)

Carson,

I'm not 16 but I will share anyway - I'm wondering if you've been doing any activities or exercising? The "addiction" to carbs as you call it (in my opinion) is our minds way of putting a label on accepting a bad habit.

We get out of things what we put into them - what I mean is this, if you've not been exercising then I would suggest starting - even just a 20 minute walk every single day. I believe if you put the effort into exercising then you will genuinely feel uninterested about eating food you know is not good for you and would be counter productive to your effort. The effort you put into your walking (or any exercising) should drive you to look for healthier choices, be honest with yourself and make no excuses for your choices.

I wish you the best of luck, I'm 41 and I've battled my weight and head games for almost 30 of my years on earth ! You have the chance to get out in front of it - make it happen !

Although I haven't seen many teenagers, there's plenty of people under 30 here. Still, we're all going through the same thing and there's tons of support available.

You might try some of the veggie Snacks and "chips" available everywhere:

https://www.google.com/search?q=veggie+snack+chips&client=firefox-a&hs=7VS&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&channel=sb&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=uIzXU5adO5LfoATq7AE&ved=0CF4QsAQ&biw=1280&bih=907

Corn-nuts were my carb snack of choice and I found a good substitute: dry roasted edamame (soybeans). Crunchy, salty, low calorie and full of Protein :)

Have you looked on Amazon Grocery? They have many of the foods you can't find in stores. I find lots of stuff on there!

To April206 and Hbg Lady, thank you for the suggestions!

Also, I didn't mean to offend anyone who IS over the age of 30 ;)

Hi, My name is Olivia and I am seventeen years old. I know I am a little late here but I have a similar idea as to what you are going through because I am there now. It is definitely hard to stay on the "eating right" train.... We have very similar stats I am 5'11 my starting weight was 247, my lowest was 149 and in the last 6 months I have bounced around between 155 and 170. If you ever want to talk feel free to message me!

Hi! I am Maria, I'm 17 years old and I can relate so much to this.. It's December and the temptation of eating junk food is so big that sometimes my willpower isn't enough and I end up eating food that I late regret.. What helped me a lot to avoid eating this sort of foods was to drink liquids. Mostly tea, but that's my personal liking. Sometimes some veggie food.. I turn side meals that I could have into very small proportions and consume them as snacks! But they take away my hunger or craving better than an actual snack food.

hi Maria

Knock knock

Who is there??

me again silly head!!

the above suggestion is wonderful

you are obviously a small cookie!!

holidays are hard to deal with for most

if you are suffering

have 1 little bite of dark chocolate candy

or something else very little

eventually you will be able to eat a little more of everything

no food is off limits

welllll, fried greasy onions and stuff not inadviceable!! :D

you are on the right road to continued success

keep up the good work

kathy

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
