Eating Post Op after Gastric Bypass

Recommended Posts

Had gastric bypass on the 22nd of July (so I'm 3 days post op). I have no clue what to eat. I know I'm on the liquid diet, but I'm DEFINITELY not eating enough. I feel dizzy tonight. I had 2 SF jellos yesterday and 2 today. What did y'all eat days 2-7?

Protein Shakes, chicken broth, drinking Water, I also got sugar free power aide, I had yogurt, those are things I been eating and seems to help me out. The first days I also had headaches maybe you need to drink more fluids you are probably dehydrated :(

I been using Silk Almondmilk Unsweetened vanilla with my Bariatric Advantage High Protein Meal Replacement Chocolte Flavored. I normally well my mom makes it for the whole day so we blended also add a banana and a bit of Water if it's to thick. I love it!! I tried the Vanilla flavor ones and I just didn't like them.

I was so nausiated that the only thing I could tolerate was Crystal Light and GRAPE! sugar free popsicles. I had some clear chicken broth in the house, but never drank it. So it was towards the end of the 2nd week before I started eating anything.

I had my sleeve on July 16th and lucky I haven't had a problem drinking my shakes. I tried Atkins and I just couldn't stand the taste :( it felt weird on my tummy.

@joatsaint- glad to hear I'm not the only one! ;)

@lovingdavid- I'm just hoping the blended/puréed stage makes things easier.the no options thing is very hard.

You may or may not be allowed Protein Shakes at this point. Every doctor is different. I was on Clear Liquids only the first week. Of course you're weak, tired, and dizzy right now. You just had surgery. It will get better. I did not have a single thing other than Water and Jello week 1 aka no calories and I'm fine.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
