Hi my name is Bryan,

I just recently went through the surgery on Monday and am feeling extremely excited for this new change in my life. The general hospital stay should have been 3 days, but I had to stay an extra day due to the fact that I wasn't drinking nearly enough liquids. It's currently my 4th day post-op and I'm having a very hard time drinking enough fluids. I tried to drink crystal light but the lemon and cherry flavors aren't really doing it for me. Is there anything that anyone has tried that they have found good? Any other techniques to make the Water taste better?

Also, what Protein Shakes have some of you been drinking? I tried the carnation instant Breakfast for a while but after the surgery I just can't take the taste of it. What other things are you guys using to get in all your Proteins?

P.S. I tried store-bought chicken broth and I'm not really a big fan of it.

Thank you in advanced!

Protein powder, preferably made with 100% Protein isolate & have pretty good taste reviews. Some brand names are: Syntrax nectar, powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury (chicken soup), Isopure.

Crystal Light: the Peach Tea is very good

Hi Bryan!

I had surgery this past Monday as well ???? the crystal light flavors that I really enjoy are fruit punch and pink lemonade. I have been getting my fluids in with that, plain Water, sugar free Jello and sugar free pops. To get in my Protein, I purchased a flavorless whey Protein Powder from GNC (the GNC brand) and I mix a scoop of that with a bottle of crystal light. It's not bad! It makes it sort of creamy-like. I also do the broths...I know they're not the tastiest, but I'm just dealing with it for now...I know it's only temporary. I hope this helps!

I liked G2 Gatorade, New Whey Protein (42g protein!) and Mio orange tangerine. SF popsicles are good too! I drink Premiere protein in choc. & strawberry (30g protein)

Just remember to sip, sip, sip!

Im 4wks out & 25lbs down...you will be there soon! Best of luck!!!

Thank you so much for the suggestions! I will be checking some of those options out.

That's a great idea! I never thought of putting the protein powder in the water. I believe you have a great outlook on this surgery, and I'm hoping to have the same. I'm going to try to continue drinking the broths and seeing which brand I like the most. It's only temporary, like you said. Thanks for the advice!

Wow that's amazing! Yeah I think I'm just going to start waking up early in the morning and just sip my way through the liquid requirement. Will definitely look into the New Whey Protein and the premiere protein. Thank you for replying so quickly!

I couldn't drink plain Water after surgery - in fact at 8 months out, I still can't. It's like liquid sandpaper...Ugh. So, I drink Propel Zero or Vitamin Water Zero. I also add Mio drops or Dasani drops sometimes to change things up.

For Protein shakes, I drink unjury - it has the Protein isolate. You want a good quality protein. Unjury has a chicken Soup which is pretty good. It's a nice change from the sweet shakes. Also, there are protein hot chocolates (go to www.mybariatricpantry.com) for some options - the hot chocolate I purchased has about 5 grams less protein than a shake, but it's better than avoiding shakes. Unflavored protein is good, too - you can add to just about anything.

Best of luck to you!

I buy welch's diet peach juice and mix with my Water. When I was first sleeved I couldn't believe that I no longer liked water. Wegmans brand chicken broth has 4 grams of Protein per cup for a good add in.

If you want something that's not sweet, try V8 juice with some unflavored Protein powder mixed in. I used the Syntrax medical grade unflavored. Also mixed that into lower carb sugar free yougurt. I couldn't tolerate plain Water. Still don't like it. I'm using H2o fruit water and come times Mio drops. Hang in there. It gets easier.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
