Misty, great job. Great work. You are doing great.

The new photo is great -- LOVE your hair. So wish I had the courage for something like that.

At 68. :)

Thank you for all the compliments! I'm already feeling more confident in my body, which is a nice change.

@

, you should do your hair any color you want! Just remember no matter what you do it is easily changed back. :) My hair is definitely my pride and joy.

Today will be my second to last post, I will post one more time after my birthday so everyone can see if I achieved my goal of being 25 lbs down by my birthday. I'm really close so here's hoping. The scale did jump up this morning to 253.2, Probably just Water weight from this weekend.

I had a blast yesterday, Mt. Charleston was gorgeous and the weather was perfect. At one point I just sat on a log and looked out over the trees and it was really peaceful. We didn't hike, we walked this little trail that was paved, we went off sidewalk for a bit to get to that log and then climbed back up, so otherwise it was just really relaxing, though the walk back to the car was exhausting, lol it was all uphill. But I did really well. :)

We ate while up there, my first meal in a restaurant and I got a bowl of no bean chili ate about 4 spoonfuls and it was nice. My bill with tip was $10. I can already see that I will be saving so much money. Overall it was a beautiful day and just what I needed. I'll see you all this weekend (birthday is Friday so I will probably post on Sunday!

EDIT: I keep forgetting to mention. I do have difficulty with drinking Protein Shakes if I add greek yogurt. It becomes too thick and then I have this uncomfortable heaviness in my tummy for up to 45 minutes. And if I'm hungry my body feels weird, until the actual hunger feelings show up. Those have been my only difficulties since surgery.

@@VSGAnn2014, how have you been doing since your surgery?

I think I'm doing great! Today is Day Seven post-op for me.

Came home from hospital Day One post-op. Had my WTF?! day on Day Two. Was over all that by Day Three. Finally hit 60 grams of Protein on Day Four -- will hit 74 grams of protein today.

Have been sleeping well, and surgery gas is mostly gone.

Am walking for exercise a bit. Have had some very energetic days (laundry, light housekeeping, exercise, grooming like a teenager, etc.) alternated with days when I nap a lot. No pain, although some occasional tummy soreness.

The biggest surprise for me is that I can drink (better every day) and eat yogurt and Soup just fine. I burp sometimes, but I have had zero nausea and haven't thrown up at all.

Oh, and I'm down 5 pounds from pre-op. So that's -11 pounds dieting on my own earlier this summer, -8 pounds on pre-op diet, and -5 pounds since surgery = -24 pounds below my highest ever.

Have my first surgeon visit this coming Thursday. That will be Day Ten.

I'm on my way. :)

My birthday was on Friday, and it was pretty emotional for me, since it was the first one since my divorce this year but I didn't make bad food decisions I also am 1 lb shy of my goal of 25 lb down since surgery. I am 24 lb down since July 24. I'm not sure if I fall under the slow loser category or not but I'm pretty okay with my progress, especially since I know it's only a little over a month out. I still have a long way to go!

I decided to give myself a break from Protein Shakes, they make my mouth taste funny and they aren't delicious. I've been concentrating on getting Protein in food form, and I've been doing okay. I can definitely do better, I just don't have the room, or the desire to eat!

I went out to dinner at Applebees for my birthday last night with my friends, and I had an AMAZING time, it really reminded me that I have great friends and people love me. I had the quesadilla burger and I half the patty with some salsa, it was really good. They brought out my birthday dessert, a scoop of vanilla ice cream with some chocolate sauce and whip cream and I ate two spoonfuls and wanted no more. That was huge for me, as I was a big time sweets addict. When people would say they don't crave sweets after surgery I didn't believe them and now I see that it is true!! We also went to bar and I had half a small drink that didn't hit me at all alcohol wise, though I still feel the post drinking dehydration hitting me this morning.

I went on a shopping spree with my mom yesterday with all my happy birthday discounts and I went to Ross and bought three future shirts. I'm looking forward to wearing them in a month! They don't look too bad on me now actually. They are all 2x from Ross and I use to have a problem finding 3x shirts that fit at Ross, so yay NSV!!

I hit 249 this morning! I haven't been this weight since I was 20, maybe 21. My body looks very different from what it was back them (not as nice), but I am still please with the progress. Only 50 lbs to Onderland, a place I haven't been since Junior high. When I started this I had so far to go it seemed impossible, now I just looking forward to the passing of time.

Also turns out it wasn't post alcohol dehydration after my birthday, it was sign #1 that I was getting a cold! And end of summer hurrah for my body apparently. I'm hydrating like crazy. Drinking OJ for Vitamin C, and green tea with antioxidants, and trying to sleep a lot.

I tried to eat my dinner last night of 6 to 8 ounces of chili no Beans and I could only eat half. I think it's cuz I only had 30 minutes to eat before I had to leave (otherwise I could have eaten the whole thing, I know because I did the night before). But Hormel chili no beans is AMAZING with a little cheddar cheese. :) Try it out if you haven't yet!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
