Surgery Scheduled!

Recommended Posts

I had my phone consult today and have my surgery scheduled today for June 14th with Dr. Mumford @ TWLC! :clap2: I am very excited and yet I am really kinda scared at the same time. :omg:

I was just wondering if anyone else went to Mississauga and if so where did you stay? :notagree I was thinking the Waterside Inn but I was just wondering what it was like? Or if their is anything other place I should consider? Thank you

Amber

Congrats Amber! The time will fly by. I'm going to Dr. Cobourn on May 9 for my surgery. I'm staying at Heritage House because I'm going alone.

I know there are others on this site who have stayed at the Novotel and the Holiday Inn. These two hotels plus the Waterside on the ones recommended by the clinic. Hopefully some others will drop by and give you their opinion on the hotels but I've never seen anything negative said about them. The Waterside looks very nice and I think it is the most expensive of the three. Maybe you can get a good package deal by booking ahead online. Good luck!

I stayed at the Novotel when I was banded in February. I thought the hotel was pretty nice. It was clean, and the staff were good as well. I have no complaints which is unusual for a hotel with me. I was able to book a couple of thier package deals that ended up to be about $100 per night.

I also liked that it was near the Square One mall (4-5 minute walk), so my DW could run out to get me stuff if I needed it. It also helped to pass the time before my surgery as my timeline did not allow us to see anything else when we were out there.

I looked into the Waterside as well, but is was a pretty high end boutique style hotel that cost a ton of money.

I dont know anything about the other one that the clinic reccomends, but I would stay at the Novotel again.

Hi there,

I will be having my band May 30th and I booked to stay at the Novotel. I got the best deal there and as Andrew has said it is so close to the Square one mall that I will be able to take advantage of walking of any of the gas pain and shopping too!! My sister in-law is also staying with me part of the time and it was no extra charge.

I did like the thought of the Waterside but after already spending so much money on flights and the surgery I wanted something not so high priced because I won't be eating there anyway!! lol I am also there from monday till saturday so that is 5 nights.

Best wishes! where ever you decide to stay!

I was banded By Dr. Cobourn a year ago at the Surgical Weight Loss Centre and it is a fantastic place! I have also met patients (some who are now friends) who have been banded by Dr. Mumford who is Dr. Cobourn's partner. I have only heard wonderful things about him too and when one of my friend's was in recovery Dr. Mumford phoned me to give me her update he was easy to talk to. I highly recommend becoming a member on the Surgical Weight Loss Centre's messageboard and chatroom at www.obesitysurgery.ca which is for pre-op and post-op patients of Dr. Cobourn and Mumford.

Oh yes I know bandsters who have stayed at all 3 of those hotels and liked them and I have visited 2 patients in their hotel rooms at the Holiday Inn and it seemed older but fine also.

Best Wishes,

Donna

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
