I spend 4 days in the hospital but it could of been 3. The surgery went well but the pain was extreme during the recovery phase. All-in-all I'd do it again to get what I expect from this RNY procedure. I hope everyone else's surgery went will and best wishes for all.

OK guys - need some MAJOR support! I am now 3 weeks post op and I have only lost 10lbs! Lost those in first few days but since then the scale has not moved!!!!! Please tell me others are having same issue! WTF am I doing wrong? Fact is I am not eating but maybe a total of 1 to 1-1/2 cups of food (if that's what you want to call it) a day. I have not had good luck getting in the Protein. My counter looks like a GNC store with all the different protein powders I have bought - but NOTHING tastes good enough to allow me to drink the whole damn thing. I get in a few sips and I want to vomit! I am eating oatmeal for Breakfast and have had pureed something for lunch - today its bruinswick stew. For dinner I eat the remainder of the can if I can get that much down. WHY the hell isn't the scale moving!!!! Did I really do this to myself and spend 30K just to lose 10lbs, be nauseous all the time, tired all the time, and regurgitate daily???

Hang in there roostertail2! Everything you have done has not been for nothing! It will get better! Just have faith and those numbers are going to start to go down, are you weighing daily? That's a mistake I made on the pre-op diet. I understand your frustration but I think it's still a little early and your body is still healing. Hang in there!!!

Give it time Rooster, it will get better and the scale will move! I think your biggest focus now needs to be getting in more food, if you are only tolerating 8-10 ounces of food that could be your problem. Your body needs to protein to heal and lose weight. Please keep trying! I tolerate protein pretty well but sometimes I have trouble and the only thing I can tolerate 100% of the time is a mix from Vitalady. It's vanilla cinnamon mixed with chocolate brownie and you mix it with hot Water and it tastes like a mocha drink. I have 5 pounds of each and drink it every day. You can order a sample from VitaLady or I could send you a scoop of each of mine for you to try. The protein is so important! If you want, PM me your address and I'll send a ziploc baggie. I want you to win! How is your water intake? That needs to be high for you to lose like you want too, I have more trouble with that than I do protein. I also make shakes with plain greek yogurt and milk and that seems to help. Keep trying and be patient with the scale, I promise it will move!

1 week post op with RNY and last night was bad. I had a BariWise Cream of Tomato Soup and was sick with dumping and dry heaves. It only had 3g of sugar so I thought it was safe. The large amount of blood in my bowels is the concern. I still have the runs 12 hours later but I held from having a movement all night long. I think the blood flow is slow enough that it's not an emergency. Anyone going through this or has?

It could be blood from your pouch so I would say call your doctor ASAP. I had black diarrhea and the nurse said it could be old food or old blood from surgery and I had to go back to full liquid for 3-4 days. So some blood does come out of the digestive tract but she said if it is bright blood it's a problem. Good luck! I hope it turns out fine for you. But seriously, call.

I had my RNY August 4 with the best surgeon in the world, Dr. Suh. I've lost just 13 lbs in 3 weeks but I'm doing absolutely everything according to his protocol so I trust the scale will move soon :) I do wonder if I'm not loosing so fast because I lost 40 in the two months prior to surgery because of a really sick gallbladder and following his pre op no starch diet. At the very least I'm fairly sure I lost all the Water weight a long time before surgery! I love recording my measurements though. Waist was 49 at first surgeon's visit and it's 43 now :)

Recovery has been absolutely unbelievable to me. Last time I had laparoscopic surgery I was on narcotics for three weeks and still had pain. This time I got one dose of the good stuff the morning after coming home from the hospital and then had to switch to Tylenol. I told the the amazing nurse that works for Dr. Suh that it just wasn't going to work for me but what do you know it did. It was uncomfortable and lying down was tough for the first 10 days but I did not need narcotics. Amazing to this gal with zero pain tolerance!

Here my one week recovery in case this helps anyone. I read a lot on this board about the recovery before my surgery because I was really nervous.

Pain numbers

Surgery day- 8-9

Surgery + 1- 6-8

Surgery +2-4-6

Surgery + 3- 4

Surgery + 4-3

Surgery + 5-2

Surgery + 6-2

Surgery + 7-2

liquids

Surgery day- none

Surgery + 1- ice, Water, juice about 15 oz

Surgery +2- ice, water, juice, Protein liquid about 20 oz

Surgery + 3-water 80 oz, broth 4oz, juice 4 oz.

Surgery + 4- water 80 oz, milk 20 oz, juice 9 oz

Surgery + 5- water 60 oz, broth 10 oz, juice 4 oz, 2 outshine Popsicles

Surgery + 6-water 90 oz, cream Soup 1/2 c, broth 6 oz, 2 outshine Popsicles

Surgery + 7-water 84 oz, juice 16 oz, 2 outshine Popsicles, milk 2 c.,

Protein

Surgery day- none

Surgery + 1- ?

Surgery +2-?

Surgery + 3- 77 grams

Surgery + 4-65

Surgery + 5-75

Surgery + 6-73

Surgery + 7-59

Walking- so slow my fitbit only counted every 2-3 steps!!

Surgery day- very little and very slow and painful

Surgery + 1- every 3-4 hours once around the ward

Surgery +2-every 2-3 hours once around the ward

Surgery + 3- 1500 steps

Surgery + 4- 2000

Surgery + 5-2200

Surgery + 6- 1600

Surgery + 7-2200

Overall I had very low grade nausea, more like just an icky feeling in my stomach. Didn't have to take anything for it. I did take gas-x but turns out it doesn't help with the particular gas we have after surgery since the gas is "too low and too high" for it to help.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
