Has anyone cheated and ate whole foods on their post op diet?

Recommended Posts

Me and my mom got the sleeve on July 11th. Were in cancun and were starving!!! Has any cheated and ate whole foods. We were thinking possibly watermelon and some soft meat? I know every doctors post op diet is different and everyone has a different reaction. Can anyone help?

You're only 3 days out and you want to eat whole foods? Obviously you can do what you choose but I would say absolutely not. I say this as someone who cheated one time. The night before I started my puree diet I had 2 ounces of baby food fruit because I wanted to taste something.

You are 3 days out. Your staples aren't even close to healing. They've only just started and you could very well cause yourself major complications. Drink some broth or sit outside in the sun and talk with your mom to pass the time. Whole foods are going to bring you problems, in my opinion.

It's just tempting cuz eveyone is barbaqueing at the hotel and the smells are killing us it's not so much of our appetite. But Thankyou for the advice were just gonna fight the temptations and stick with the Gatorade and broth.< /p>

I suggest you stick to your doctor's plan - he has prescribed that for a reason. You just had major surgery and you are still healing. Eating food can hurt you and damage your sleeve. It's not worth it. You need to be kind to your body and take care of your new tiny tummy.

Stick together to keep each other strong. Maybe take a walk away from the hotel and all of the food and try to sip some Water. You are lucky to have someone on the journey with you, make the most of that. Plus you will feel awful if you eat anything you are not supposed to this soon, not to mention the guilt feelings. =)

I spent 5.5 months in the hospital because of a leak that I did not bring on myself. Almost 2 years with constant complications and severe pain and you will never know the things I have experienced to get to this place....

Go a head eat whole food and then contact me when the trouble begins and I will let you really know what your in for...

Just because the food smells good...

If you can't do it now..i am concerned about the 2 of you later on....PLEASE Stick to the program!

I am 5 days out and I'm still not hungry! Not even a little bit! I wouldn't do it though. The thought if messing up weeks of prep and endangering myself scares me away from cheating! Stay strong.

Are you taking Prilosec or something like that? That hungry feeling could be acid, as it presents as hunger. Hang tight. The restricted diet is very temporary.

You apparently have access to the internet, so go on youtube and watch a video of a sleeve surgery. It will remind you of the actual condition your new tummy is in. It is raw - with staples. Please please please walk away from the food and the smells - reduce the temptation and stay on plan. Listen to RJ's advice. She has been through so much and has your best interest at heart. Unless you want to spend the rest of your Cancun vacation in the hospital, stay...on...plan.

Stick to your diet!!! I was sleeved on June 25th. I am not one bit hungry. Sometimes the smells get to me but don't make me hungry I just go do something to keep me busy. Maybe go do your exercising that we are supposed to be doing from day 1? The dr tells you to eat certain things for a reason.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
