Vacation After DS?

Recommended Posts

Hi All! I am brand new to this forum. My DS is scheduled for this Wednesday, July 16th. My family has a trip to DisneyWorld planned for August 9th that can not be changed due to my dad's cancer. Do you think I am going to be able to walk around in the heat only 3 weeks post-op? I've already purchased a portable blender to take with me in the parks. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!

@@iammomof3, I'm pre-op and everyone's different, so I can't tell if 3 weeks is too soon or not. Disney has wheelchairs and scooters to rent if it gets to be too much.

All good advice above. I bet you will be fine with precautions. just be prepared with drinks, food and don't be afraid to rest or whatever you need. Your worst thing would be over doing it so make sure that doesn't happen.

I am not that far from Disney World in Orlando. Not sure how much you have been here but it is extremely humid and hot right now.

Have a wonderful trip and good luck on your surgery, almost there!

Be prepared to be in pain. I am 6 days post op for the Switch and I can't imagine going on any vacation anytime soon. Two weeks out from surgery and your incisions haven't even healed completely. I have one on my left side that hurts only when I move.

You'll need to and want to be walking but prepare for your belly to be very sore.

Keep hydrated and good luck.

Oh and beware of sneezing. Try to hold your incisions while you sneeze, it minimizes the pain.

I would strongly advise against going anywhere so soon after your surgery. You will still jhave considerable pain, and you would also be vulnerable to infection . What if you got really sick far away from home, away from your doctors, and having to rely upon doctors and even a hospital that do not know you? What if you had to be sent back home by air ambulance? To try to travel now so soon after such major, intrusive surgery could be risking truly serious complications.

I don't want to sound discouraging and everyone is different. I had my surgery 06/10/2014 and there was no way I could have gone on vacation three weeks out. I went back to work this week and I'm exhausted. I had stretching and pulling pain on my left side around two incisions until last week.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
