Anyone in Diabetes Remission?

Recommended Posts

My wife and I are looking into WLS and both of us were more interested in the sleeve rather than RNY.

My wife's boss told her that she also wanted to do the sleeve procedure, but doctor said she'd do better with the RNY due to her diabetes.

My wife has Type 2 diabetes and I'm just wondering if anyone has had success with having their diabetes go into remission with the sleeve.

My wife's mom has diabetes mellitis.

I have been off my diabetes meds since my sleeve. Typically my sugars run between 90 and 115, post sleeve. I was on metformin and glipizide before.

This is me exactly. About 4 months before my surgery I starerted a high protein/low carb diet and my diabetes was VERY under control with it to where I only had to take metformin. Since my sleeve 2.5 weeks ago I haven't taken any diabetes medication and I'm testing between 90-110.

I am not diabetic but my doctor told me many patients are off all diabetes meds within a week or two. Some before they even leave the hospital. Crazy but great!

I have type 2 diabetes. I was off of my Metformin immediately after the surgery. Also, off all (3) of my blood pressure medicines. I am 6 weeks out.

I'm a type one diabetic. My Dr sugested the sleeve WLS. Best thing ever. After the sleeve I'm down to one type of insulin and take far less units of insulin when I need it. I'm in control of my blood sugars. I eat alot of protien, low carbs and exercise.

I wish you and you wife the best! welcome to your journey

I had a kind of Diabetes still technically in the process of being defined (kinda like 1.5 was until recently). Basically it is an atypical type 2. Weight was a factor, but my pancreas and liver worked in off cycles, and when they would work together like they should I would actually plummet, and when not I could get really high (yes I realize I highs and lows are typical Diabetic conditions, unless you want to read a book you will have to just work with what I am saying).

After weight loss, BEFORE my surgery, I began to see remarkable improvement of the inflammation that aggravated the issue, and after the surgery and more weight loss, I went into complete remission in early 2012 (do keep in mind what "complete" means is still being defined by doctors, with exceptional disagreements with health care organizations and life insurance agents, etc).

For me, it was the weight loss that helped, not necessarily the WLS - however I was told that the issues I had after surgery (you can read my profile) negatively affected the inflammation, and had I not experienced them, I could have been in official remission possibly even earlier. So with that said, although I did not ask, I think the malabsorptive issues of RNY, while creating the initial weight loss that helps type 2's (generally), may eventually negatively impact long-term type 2 success due to the Vitamin deficiency issues.

I am a type ll diabetic and was taking two different types of insulin 4x a day. I have not had any insulin in 3 weeks. My sugars are about 98 during the day. They do go up at night between 130-145 but i was told that number will come down as i lose more weight. I had the sleeve on 6/24.

My A1c was 8.6 presurgery. I stopped diabetes meds 1 day preop. My a1c 3months & 1 week later was 5.1. I'm very careful with my carb intake. My dr also said Rny was better for diabetics but did not push the issue since I preferred the sleeve. I have been completely happy with my sleeve. Good luck

Every Dr. It seems has their own opinion. My Dr. only wanted me to have the sleeve with my diabetes. She was totally against the RNY. All i can say is that my numbers have never been better and i am off insulin.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
