Potato Lasagna!!! YUM

Im trying this tonight...ive heard from 3 diff people that this is AWESOME... anyone tried this....YUM?

I'll let you know how it comes out...

spacer.gif1 lb. potatoes, peeled, thinly sliced 1/2 lb. lean ground beef 1/2 cup chopped onion 1 jar (14 oz.) spaghetti sauce 3/4 cup POLLY-O FREE Natural Nonfat Ricotta cheese 1/4 cup KRAFT Reduced Fat Parmesan Style Grated Topping 2 egg whites 1/2 cup shredded POLLY-O Part Skim Mozzarella cheese

PREHEAT oven to 350°F. Cook potatoes in large pot of boiling Water for 5 minutes; drain. Meanwhile, brown meat with onion in large nonstick skillet, stirring occasionally. Drain, if necessary. Add spaghetti sauce to skillet. MIX ricotta cheese, grated topping and egg whites until well blended. Spoon half of the meat mixture into 8-inch square baking dish sprayed with cooking spray. Cover with half of the potatoes; top with layers of the ricotta cheese mixture, remaining potatoes and remaining meat mixture. Sprinkle with mozzarella cheese. Cover with foil. BAKE 50 minutes. Remove foil. Bake an additional 10 minutes or until cheese is melted. spacer.gif

Wow, K... I have to disagree with you on this recipe. Maybe it is good but it is very high in calories, fat, sodium, and carbs. This is just the main dish at a whopping 390 calories. That doesn't include a veggie or other sides.

Fiber, 4gms of fiber... we should be looking for foods that provide about 4gms of fiber PER 100 calories. This one isn't it.

42 carbs for one dish of a meal? No way... not for me. B)

See to me I can not eat a whole lot anyway...so if it is in MODERATION...4 oz....its not bad...it's not realistic to think that EVERY thing you put in your mouth is going to be cheese free or low cal...but in small quantities this is not THAT bad for you.

I still kept my cal count down to 950 today and had a banana and some veggies earlier...so its all in your complete day not JUST one meal

it sounds good. i would probably try it. of course, with my restriction, i could maybe eat a couple bites, so cals for me isnt that big of a deal. i try to stay above 1200 cals a day.

Amen I cant eat much either.....it was really good....

I guess I have to combine my health and REALITY......i have to eat at least one thing every day thats satisfying.....veggies and fruit dont do that for me....so as long as i get my fruit and veggies in...and im not crazy on my cals for the day...i think ill be ok....

mmmmm i wonder what tomorrows dinner will be....

LOL. The title pulled me in. The nutrition info doesn't seem to be the best, but it DOES look delicious! I'm going to go sip on some broth now.. hehehehe.

I agree with you entirely Krystal and I am definitley going to try this one out. I would eat this and enjoy it too. In moderation I dont see what's wrong with it, its very dependent upon what else you've had to eat that day.

I dont want to come across as arguing with the high Protein low carb message every single time (but I know I do, lol), becuase really WHATEVER way you want to do it is the perfect way for you and it does work!. But I do feel moved always to point out in these threads that you dont *have* to do low carb to lose weight, the eat everything in moderation diet works very well too. I hate the idea that people might actually believe that you absolutely cannot eat carbs or that people might be browsing this site from Australia or elsewhere in the world where we're not advised to do Protein first and think that being banded means a life on Atkins. It just doesnt if you dont want it to.

Potato is a good healthy food, packed with Vitamins and minerals. Lasagne overall is a pretty calorific high fat dish so best eaten in moderation, but a small piece of this and salad for dinner wouldnt phase me. I've actually made lasagne with eggplant before instead of Pasta and it was delish!

Who said anything about low carb??????? I reread the thread and I saw nothing about that. The only thing I personally wrote is that 42 carbs per serving is wayyyyy too high for me. Absolutely nothing was said about low carb. It wasn't mentioned, it wasn't discussed, and it wasn't inferred.

This post was intended to show people a diff way to make lasagna without the noodles....

I know im not the only potato lover in the group.

I think what it boils down to is that EVERYONE has their OWN idea of what will work for them. I dont know what works for me unless i try it.

What i do know is that, if i dont eat SOMETHING that satisfies my cravings of what most of us big people call "big/fattening" food then regardless of my band or not i feel like i have not eaten anything and then eventually that will eat at me all day until i binge eat.....its safer for me to have one meal a day that has SOME of the foods i crave involved wether it be cheese or potato....in small quanities it will not hurt me.

It would hurt me however, if i starved myself from my cravings and then finally gave into it and gorged myself as much as i could.....

Im not on a diet....im on a life change.

It is not reality to assume I will not eat things that are a little fattening or has some carbs in it.

Thats just my take on things.

OK, let me rephrase, 42g of carb a serving may be too high for some people, so they'd prefer not to eat that. But its entirely possible to eat meals that contain 42g of carb or more and still lose weight. Does that sound better?

In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
