What is normal right after a Tummy Tuck?

Recommended Posts

So I just had my TT 2 days ago and came home yesterday.

I was very very excited to finally be having the op and was of course expecting some pain / discomfort after.

My surgery went well, except my surgeon had some issues with my belly button, because of the scar from my sleeve, but he seems to think it's all ok. He removed 18cm (7 inches) of skin from by stomach and I have a 36 cm incision (14 inches), from hip to hip. He also sewed by stomach muscles together a bit and did some Lipo on my upper stomach, he says that I should get an excellent result :)

My drains are coming out tomorrow which I think will make me more comfortable.

I can't stand up straight at the moment and have constant pain all along the incision line, which I think is normal? Getting up and down from lying is the hardest thing.

I'm quite tired of course but sleeping is difficult because I can only lie, relatievly comfortablly, on my back, sitting up with a wedge of pillows behind me and another pillow under my knees. I have disc problems and this position is making me really stiff, so this is not helping.

The support garment, which is from under my bust right to the knee, that I have to wear for the next 3 weeks is quite uncomfortable but I'm getting used to it.

i fainted twice yesterday, lucikly I was sitting at the time, I've never fainted before and my surgeon said this is due to a drop in blood pressure caused by too much activity.

I'm now trying to take things much easier.......

I would love to hear from anyone who has had a TT and what their experience was right after. It would be great to hear other peoples experiences and to know approx. how long it will be before I can move around more easily and feel a bit more normal.

I've waited a long time to have this op but I'm struggling to feel great about it right now :(

Never had the surgery but it IS surgery with all the same effects of anesthesia and pain management. Take it easy and recover - it always feels worse before it gets better. I hope you get the reassurance you need from others who've been there. Take care! :-)

my incision didn't hurt too much, I just had to stay hunched at all times, no straightening out. Also having spine problems, my best sleeping position was on the couch, semi sitting, pillows under knees and leaning towards the back of the couch on another pillow.

Surprised your drains are coming out so soon, my first one came out after a week, the second, was about 2 1/2 wks.

For the best final result, once you are not wearing the support garment from the doc. get yourself some firm control body suits or waist nippers. I was told the longer I wore compression, the better the final result. Wore compression for about 3 months, figured I was lucky enough to have the surgery so what's 3 months in the scheme of things?

These are what I wore:

I'm day 12 after an extended TT and breast lift. I just got 3 of 4 drains out yesterday and also was very uncomfortable. Once the drains came out things got much better. I have started to move better in the last couple of days but really pushed it too hard earlier on the week. Lesson - take it easy. You just had major surgery and the result is worth the wait. I know easier said than done. I'm taking the garment in stride because it makes me feel more secure and protected and I know it will improve my results. I have felt a bit like my stomach is like a balloon. PS says watch ur sodium intake cause that can really effect it. Drink extra Water and eat clean Protein. Otherwise, just sit back and relax because ur weight is going to fluctuate. Good luck to you and take it easy.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
