Less than 14 days post op - guzzling water like nothing

Recommended Posts

I think maybe it might be acid even though I dont have acid reflux or heartburn really feels like hungry though so I'm going to take something to try to neutralize the acid.

Most surgeons have their patients on an acid reducer post op for this very reason. You might want to ask them if you need to be on something regularly for a while. My surgeon puts us on something for at least the first 3 months, and as needed after that.

Im jealous! If I take a big gulp I have to keep half in my cheek and swallow in two parts. I feel a bit like a chipmunk. LOL

I've been avoiding drinking too much Water at one time not knowing if it's good for the new tummy or not and my NUT has only told me to try drinking more. Before surgery, that was the main liquid I drank - so I'll start drinking it like I used to again. thanks!

Question though, is it ok to drink the Protein liquids that quick too? It's so hard for me to drink the muscle milk slow and 3oz at a time, I enjoy the flavor and want to drink it while it's still real cold.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
