how long did your bypass surgery take?

I'm hearing varying lengths in time- even within my surgical team. One says a couple hours, another says I'll be under anesthesia for 6 hours, another says 4 hours. What can I expect? (of course not factoring in any unexpected events happening)

I believe I was in and out of surgery within two hours or less.

I had laparoscopic surgery for my bypass.

Mine took 1 hour and 15 minutes. My team always does it in between 1 and 1 1/2 hours, providing there are no unforseen problems or complications. They say there is a direct link to recovery time and length of time under anesthesia. Don't know how true it is but my recovery was fast - I felt good by four days out, was driving at 7 days, and cutting my 1 1/2 acre of grass (with a self-propelled push mower) by 9 days. I felt guilty about my second week out of work - it felt more like vacation than recovery. :-)

Hmmm, I'm thinking I better be asking again on this. Mine is to be laparoscopy as well. I assumed the pulmonologist and nurses in the practice knew, and never asked the surgeon directly. I'll for sure be double checking. Maybe it was a scare tactic by the pulm. Since I was squawking at having a sleep study.

Definitely ask your surgical team. They would know. There can be many factors in surgery length. Quite a few end up with unexpected hernia repairs and it seems fairly common. I had an unplanned hernia repair when I had my gallbladder removed 6 mos after my RNY

Hi it varies by doctors my surgery only took 2 hours 1 hour and 15 minutes for the surgery and the remaining time used for me to wake up the best sleep I ever had . Good luck .

Mine took 2 hours - which was longer than the 1.5 they estimated. Doctor told hubby while I was in recovery it was because I had more abdominal muscle to work around than normal (he phrased it as being built more like he'd expect a man to be built) - I hope that means those muscles will come in handy and limit skin sagging.

I asked my Dr. yesterday and he about 90 mins for the RNY. He said the sleeve takes about 20 mins. He does them all Robotically.
