Whats your "full" signal?

Recommended Posts

I'm a little over 3 weeks post op and have just started on soft foods in the last few days. I'm beginning to familiarize myself with my restriction.

I think it's kind of funny how everyone's body signals them in different ways to let them know that they're full. What is your full signal?

Mine is hiccups. It took me a few days to make the connection, but now that I've figured it out, I know that if I hiccup, I need to stop :-)

I get a sharp pain under my right ribs that seems random, then I burp usually a weird sounding groaning burp, and it feels like something settled. If i'm SMART I stop there instead of "oh the burp made more room" but I have gone the bad route and found myself miserable.

It takes practice, patience and paying attention to figure out how your body is going to end up working on the hunger side. I'm glad for your progress so far!!

I get a little burp. It's a definite signal, because one bite post-burp, and I regret it mightily for the next hour or so.

I haven't figured mine out yet, but I sure need to soon! A few times lately I've had that "last bite" that turned into the one that was too much :(

Mine is hiccups or a burp. I feel soooo much better after a burp that I just stop right then and there. The hiccups however...They drive me nuts. I also find I will hiccup if I eat a little too quickly. :)

I take a biiiiig breath, like I'm trying to settle my tummy. I've realized this is my signal for belly is full.

After 9 months, a runny nose is still my first sign.

A hic-erp. A hiccup burp. Strange sound. I know now to stop at one because the second one hurts!

I'm almost 4 weeks out. When I was first learning I would eat until it felt like it was backing up into my throat. Seriously only a few bites. Not like I was trying to pig out or anything. Lol now I don't really have anything that happens but I just get this feeling like "I'm done. No more." It's kind of weird to just know "ok that's enough." Even when your head wants more. But I haven't had the backed up to my throat sensation in quite awhile so I guess I've figured it out now. :)

That's a hard one for me still and I'm 4 mos out. Usually I'll start pushing my food around on my plate. I never noticed it till my hubby did. I don't always catch myself either when I'm eating by myself :-(

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
