Hello All...

I had my surgery Tuesday, 06-24-14, and I am not sure what's going on. After taking pills I have this sensation that something is stuck in my throat. It feels like a lump. Did any one else have this issue? What worked for you? What didn't work for you? What did your doctor say? I've had this sensation since taking pills last night.

I had Soup that had little bitty chunks in it and it worked great, it wasn't until I took the pills did I have this stuck feeling. The day before when I was on Clear liquids I had this same stuck feeling after taking pills and the doctor extended my hospital stay, but no resolution.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP, this is a horrible feeling, it's so frustrating. Other then this I feel great.

Thank you everyone, I really appreciate your feedback.

p.s. I did slice/crush the pills.

Hi,

My doctor required that I crush pills for the first month. Even with a flavored drink you can taste how awful they are. But they don't get stuck that way.

Good luck.

I was told not to try taking pills for a while. If I do take any right now, I break them in half (Tylenol) or open them (omeprazole.)

I did crush them, that's why it's so frustrating. Also, why is it that I still have this feeling when I took the pills last night?

Hi,

When I was in the hospital the nurses would bring me 4 pills to take all at once.

I was fine with the tablets but the capsules like the Omeprazole kept getting stuck and causing discomfort.

I was sleeved on June 16th and now it's not happening anymore.

I think possibly the pills were turning sideways on the way down and getting stuck til they dissolved.

Now I can take 3 pills without a problem on an empty stomach.

This too hopefully shall pass........... :)

Have you tried "hiding" your pills in a small spoonful of applesauce, mashed potato, yogurt, anything that could help lube the way down? Like a bruise, when you touch it the next day, it still hurts?

I was sleeved 6/24 as well

I found that taking my blood pressure pill (crushed) with omeprazole and the Multivitamin was too much at once

Did not feel stuck felt full and created more acid then necessary

I did one evry 30 minutes and made it better

Hi I'm six-month out and just went through this.... I took an Iron capsule and it turned sideways and got stuck.... the next morning I felt like I had something still stuck in my throat. I called my nurse and she told me that the pill was not stuck anymore... she said when it got stuck it irritated my esophagus and it caused me to have indigestion so she told me to take a fast acting PPI...She said that the irritation on the lining of my esophagus caused me to have instant gastric acid that acid feels like food that stuck on the side of your throat down towards the bottom of your chest.... when I got to work I did exactly what she told me and took some Zantac I felt better instantly.....

I was sleeved 6/17 and I was so scared because of my anti depressants that I must take every day.

Nutritionist told me to not take any pill larger than the Rx Prilosec capsule. All my supplements are chewables or a capsule which I can open and take easier.

However I have not had a problem with the other pills to date. I'm sure I might somedays, but I will crush or split them before I give up.

Thanks for everyone's insight. It really helps.

After raking my crushed pill, I try drinking something warm. It helps!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
