i am going for my psych eval Monday. I've already seen the nutritionist and she's all for me having this done. I got my psychiatrist to grudgingly write a letter stating that I am cleared for the surgery.

I know at the psych eval I have to take the mmpi and beck depression inventory.

i'm on the schizo spectrum so i'm very nervous - although I've always been somewhat of a rational person regarding things like my weight and dieting. not so much when it comes to medications that do not work or are not scripted correctly.

anyways I hope I get through this because I really need to lose weight

I was 321 on my initial consult with surgeon may 13

I think I gained a few lbs after that

now i'm 316 as of Thursday 6/27

I also quit smoking 6/27 so ugh I picked up some Vitamin c to help get rid of the nicotine in my blood

Don't worry about Monday, you'll do fine. Just answer the questions truthfully. My psych was great. She asked about my diet history, reasons why I think this will work, family history, and support system. She wanted to make sure that I knew just what I was getting into. I told her about all the research I had done and that I was on a bariatric support forum. I talked to her for about 45 mins and that was it. I didn't have to take any test, like some people on here have mentioned.

Congrats on quitting smoking. That is something that is very hard, but shows you are wanting to change your health.

Good luck.

First, congrats on quitting nicotine. That is HARD. I quit 10 months ago. I've never done anything more difficult and I'm not lying. The first few weeks are murderous. If you can get through those you can do anything :D Keep up the good work!

I was nervous for the psych eval as well. There are certain things I don't really want to know about myself, ha ha. Seriously though the only thing you can do is be honest when answering all of the questions. Apparently it's quite obvious if you try to fudge to make yourself seem "better" than you are. Everyone has faults...lying to say you've never stolen a pen from work is just silly ;) I hope I'm making sense here? You'll see what I mean when you take the test!

Best of luck!

Don't over think it. Be honest, they want to make sure you have support and you know exactly what you're getting into. You'll do fine! The eval was the easiest part for me. Best of luck!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
